"Arrival" was a bargain

The movie "Arrival" should have won Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Actress for Amy Adams, in my opinion. It got the nomination for Best Picture, but Adams somehow was passed over for the actress nomination. .Nonetheless, the movie is a delight. The writing was clever and original, the performances were superb, and it was entirely unpredictable to me. When I saw Best Buy had a Blu-Ray edition at a great price on Black Friday, I jumped at it -- and am happy to own a copy of it.

An OUTSTANDING Eastwood buy

The Italian-made "Man with no name" western trilogy ("A Fistful of Dollars," "For a Few Dollars More" and "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly") played an important part in Clint Eastwood's successful movie career. The movies, which were all directed by Sergio Leone, were released in 1964, 1965 and 1966. All were huge box office successes. Eastwood also starred in a 1968 American Western called "Hang 'Em High" that wasn't directed by Leone but has some similarities to the Italian trilogy. The "Man with no name" trilogy and "Hang 'Em High" were packaged together in a brilliant marketing move, and I was lucky enough to find it at the local Best Buy for an amazing price. Clint Eastwood is one of my favorite actors and directors, and these four movies are the link between Clint's television success on "Rawhide" and his successful career in films. It is one of the best bargains I found this year.

"Bones" is a great television show, and the Blu-Ray set of Bones, Fifth Season, is up the the show's usual standard. It didn't disappoint, and the Best Buy price for it was excellent.
Let me tell you why buying at Best Buy is always a good choice for me. I bought several Best Buy discs on Black Friday 2016, both in the store and online. One of them was Black Sails, Season Two. My wife gave it and several other discs to me for Christmas. I didn't open it until December 25 and didn't get around to start watching it until February 2017. When I did, I discovered that the first disc in the set had "video garbling" in one of the episodes.
I took the disc set to the local Best Buy store with a print out of the online purchase of it. A very helpful young woman (I think her name was Nathalie) in customer service said because the discs had been bought in November that she would have to check with a manager to approve the replacement. I went to to the store's video section to get a replacement, and by the time I got back, the manager had already approved it. Because of a positive experience in replacing a Best Buy disc years ago, I never doubted it would be approved.
Kudoes to Nathalie and the manager for their prompt and fair treatment of a Best Buy customer. It is that kind of support that gives me the customer confidence to always make Best Buy my first choice when buying movies, TV seasons, music and everything else!

Like many Star Wars fans, I was eagerly looking forward to the release of "The Force Awakens" in December, 2015. I wasn't disappointed with it and enjoyed it twice on big-screen theaters. Home video can't compare to the theater experience, but watching the movie on blu-ray on a 45-inch TV screen is very enjoyable in its own right.

The 1960s Batman television series wasn't perfect, but I was (and still am) a comic book fan, and I was happy it was on TV. The third and final season of the series introduced a new character -- Batgirl. She was soon added to the comic books, Yvonne Craig did a great job of bringing her to life, and she was a major teenage crush of mine. I bought the complete third season from Best Buy on Black Friday, and I'm really happy to have it. It brings back a lot of fun from my teenage years.

Amy Grant Christmas warmth

I have a lot of Christmas music, and Amy Grant is my favorite female vocalist for Christmas music. She released three fine Christmas albums in 1983, 1993 and 1999 -- and compilation albums of earlier Christmas material after that. The announcement of new Amy Grant Christmas album this year was very welcome in our house, and we liked it. We didn't feel it was quite as good as her original three albums, but it is still nice to have a new Christmas recording by her.
