back in 1978 i visited the eric tri state mall a few times to see the film king of the gypsies. in addition to a stelar cast including sterling hayden, susan sarandon, judd hirsch (from tv's taxi), shelly winters (overacting), brooke shields, annette o'toole and annie potts it was eric roberts first role. my then 17 year old self fell in love with this young actor. the film was full of teen angt and the gypsy culture. great camera work and gypsy music and dancing added to the feel. a very violent end to a father and son relationship had to happen in this world. the film upon watching it on dvd now, seems a little badly written for the screen, but eric never looked so young.
What's great about it: eric roberts first role still his best
What's not so great: screenplay full of more holes thn noticed upon 1978 release in theatres
