King of laptops
on May 1, 2024
Posted by: badradio
I have had this laptop for around 5 days as I write this. I can say that this is definitely a desktop replacement for me. My old desktop has a GTX 1080 and stuck on Windows 10. There doesn’t seem to be anything that the RTX 4090 can’t handle on this laptop. The I9 processor is the best there is today and is very fast, even if at 2.2 GHz.
The hardware is great, the software, not so much. I ran into several issues with the Microsoft store that really put a huge damper on the experience, personally. I was really hoping that Microsoft would have a better online experience, considering this laptop comes with 1 month of Xbox GamePass. If you plan on using their store front, use caution and have patience. Maybe use Steam instead. The other software issue I ran into several times the first couple of days was with the Predator Sense software that Acer includes. While a very handy app that controls several important functions like fan speed & CPU/GPU scaling from quiet to what Acer has labeled as Turbo. The app also shows the rpm’s of the fans of the cpu & gpu in real time, along with customization of the keyboard, which can also be connected to different modes for the fans as well. There were several instances of needing to reboot until Predator sense finally started to work. The keyboard is very comfortable to type on and looks really cool with the different effects.
The last big item I want to mention, is the 18" screen with a resolution of 2560x1600. I personally think the games look great but can also be used in 4K resolution on a TV/monitor that supports it. Just know that playing in 4K will make the fans go "Turbo". The refresh time is also very doable at .5ms and for games I played, was fine. For the record, the games played were Lies of P, Elden Ring, Star Wars Survivor, Diablo IV & Starfield. This laptop gives you full graphical options @144 MHz for all of them.

The ultimate tablet
on August 26, 2023
Posted by: badradio
This review is for the Tab S9 ULTRA. I would like to preface this review by stating that I have an S22 Ultra smarthphone by Samsung, along with an older Samsung tablet. One area I was looking forward to was connectivity between this tablet and all my other gadgets. I was not let down. I like the advancements Samsung has made in the UI and shortcuts in the software. For example, creating multiple windows is now easier than ever, no doubt helps with the huge 14.6 screen this tablet has. Drag and drop makes multitasking easier than ever.
I went and got some accessories as well, mainly a USB-C hub to connect the tab S9 Ultra to an external screen, which ended up being an extra monitor I have laying around & also to my 43" TV. As soon as an HDMI cable is detected or something for the keyboard, automatically goes into DEX mode, which mimicks a desktop type display through Android. What is cool, is that I can have a movie going on the TV, and a browser open on the Tablet to write this review. The overall point is that Samsung has made it easier than ever to just use this tablet how you want.
One point I really wanted to hit on was that this is the first tablet I've had that is just as fast as my phone. Actually, the Tab S9 has an updated version of the CPU that is in my Samsung phone. This means that the Tab s9 flies through everything I have thrown at it without a hitch. I wont lie, in the past, I would always find a limit until the phone or tablet would get backed up and slow down. With this tablet? No slowdown. The battery may drain faster sure, but is always blazing fast.
Also, the S-pen in this version is better than ever. Holding in hand feels more like an actual pen.
Laptop replacement? Definitely! Desktop replacement? Possible. Not perfect and if into gaming then no, but for average use, the Tab S9 can do everything with 3 apps open with one floating.
The only downside? 2 areas: yes, very expensive at $1,200. The other is that some apps, still do not conform to tablet dimensions. Not a huge downer, more of a visual annoyance in an other wise beautiful landscape this screen provides.
I highly recommend this tablet, aside from the price. Personally I will get years of use out of this, like I would a laptop or small desktop PC.

Best accessory for PS5
on June 20, 2023
Posted by: badradio
I received this SSD about a week ago for my PS5. I have always wanted to add more storage since day one, for the PS4 back catalog, if anything. There have been 2 options available for adding more storage, internal or external. No doubt, the internal option is the preferred way to go here, but more expensive. Also, internal SSD's need a heatsink as well, due to the heat generated. Some may be turned away from installing something like a PC, but the process is fairly easy from start to finish.
Please know that the WD Black SN850P comes with the attached heatsink and is *already included* and is an officially licensed PlayStation product too, so that takes some guess work out of the mix right away. I have included some pics showing what the PS5 system shows after initial install & what shows from installing 41 games(!). Couple COD's, several PS5 games from the new Diablo IV to GOW Ragnarök, Spiderman, etc. I chose 400GB plus available for upcoming games this year like FF 16 (91gbs) and future PS plus titles as well.
The software install process was automatic with a confirmation button press to initially reformat for the PS5, then the downloading started for many hours to add games.
I included the hardware install section here last due to the process requiring me to look online on how to properly install the SSD inside the PS5. Nothing too scary, use a small Phillips screwdriver and only takes 5 minutes. I think I struggled getting the PS5 side covers off more, to be honest.
The following is a review of the actual numbers this SSD provides: I added 41 games that filled about 1.5 TB that averaged out to 36.5 GBs per game. There is something to be said for having this many games at your fingertips. I played games I haven't in years, simply because of convenience. Lastly, the transfer rate seemed to go about 1.5 GB/s from PS5 internal SSD to the WD SSD as well. A 60 GB game only took about 20-30 seconds!
Even if you don't necessarily need extra storage, I love having all my favorite games in one place, I don't have to download again, just a quick 5-minute install. My tip is to make folders asap, trust me.
Highly recommend this product to everyone.

Large, basic table fan
on April 29, 2023
Posted by: badradio
This Star Elite fan is 16" and suitable for a table or dresser. Where I live, there is no air conditioning, so I was looking for a new fan for the year.
This is a basic, no frills fan, no timer or extras, just 3 speed settings and oscillation button. The build is decent, made out of plastic. Took about 5 minutes to put together. On lower power, the sound is minimal and non intrusive. This changes by the top speed. You can really notice the motor here. Now on one hand, this fan got a tad shaky and noisy when it's oscillating. The good news is that motor is pretty strong! In all fairness, if you need a fan going this high, your probably worrying about other things, ie. heat for example, like my house in the summer months. I'm looking forward to the impact this fan will have once triple digits really hit.
I also wanted to bring up the assembly. Aside from heat, I deal with dust where I live as well. I didn't think about it until I needed to, but being able to take apart the fan to clean it, is great!
Overall, I'm enjoying this fan. Doesn't have a premium feel to it, but a strong motor. Small handle in the back helps for transporting too.

Nice upgrade from regular flossing
on March 23, 2023
Posted by: badradio
This review is from my week from using this water flosser. I'm sure like you, I've been told flossing with water is better. I've been hesitant over the years due pain level. My initial thoughts were that the flosser is light and easy to use. It charges relatively quickly. In the week I did use this flosser, took less than 2-3 to charge, and has left over charge by the end of the week. The directions were easy to follow on how to properly use this. I personally have sensitive gums, so when I used cold water, there was some soreness, but the actual pressure didn't cause pain. I had a better experience with lukewarm water.
The flosser was able to get through to hard to reach spots around my molars. I noticed plaque that wouldn't normally loosen from normal flossing. I liked how you were able to adjust the pressure and speed of the flosser, with minimal pressure, I was able to loosen plaque pretty easily. Going forward, I am glad I made the change to water flossing. It's definitely a better way to floss and will stick with it too see long term the improvements are.

Solid compact KB
on October 3, 2022
Posted by: badradio
The Vulcan II mini solved my kb dilemma I've been having. Between multiple PCs and now game systems, I find myself taking my KB to different places. I currently have a full sized mechanical KB that has a very thick cable and 2 USBs to plug in to the PC. The Type-C cable with the Vulcan II mini provided is great, as it is long but slim cable, making it easy to just grab and go.
The keyboard itself looks amazing and was an initial selling point for me. Options for lighting and customization are fine, but app for the KB did not download and was confused on how to proceed because there was no information on it in the packaging, which I find very puzzling. Why not have something, even on the box for example, that says download for software? The paper that was included was not helpful. I can see people not fully using the KB or returning it, because of confusion.
The feel is very sleek and took some getting used to, coming from a full sized KB, was a fun time, other than the space bar seemed a bit touchy, but like I said, there is a slight learning curve. To help with this, there are multiple heights the KB can be propped up, which I appreciated.

Great way to extend internet coverage
on September 3, 2022
Posted by: badradio
Last year, I upgraded my router to the Linksys - Hydra Pro AXE6600 Wi-Fi 6E Tri-Band Router, and has performed admirably thus far. However, through the years, I've tried different avenues to extend my wifi, but always an issue in the house I live in, due to the old design. Specifically, the Netgear Power line adapters extended plug in Ethernet around the house. Unfortunately, I never got any where near the full output of my broadband this way, and also introduced issues with printing in Windows too.
I set up each node via the Linksys app within 30 minutes: Plug in node, which requests bluetooth to sync and join the network. That's about it.
I can verify from the app, that the devices on the lower level of the house, were now connected to the lowest nodes. Also connected my PS5 & XSX via Ethernet cable for speeds as if I was sitting next to the router itself. Finally an ethernet connection for multiplayer and downloading.
Additionally, there are about 17-20 devices connected at any one time on a 300 mb/s connection. Downloaded about +2 gigs / minute from the other side of the house. With the 2 nodes added to my existing network, I can now add 50+ connections with solid connection.

It does work
on September 23, 2021
Posted by: badradio
from ca
This product was tested on myself, but mostly was used by my wife for this review. I had a bite when I received the the insect bite healer, but I had already scratched up the bite, so relied on my wife who, since getting this device, has helped get rid of around 4 bites. Here are the details:
The healer only takes a few seconds to start working by heating up the area of your bite to ultimately re-direct the blood flow away from the bite and stop the itching that drives us all crazy.
The first few times, almost feels like a shock with slight pain, but the itching calms down immediately.
To completly work that I have seen, I applied the healer to a bite up to 3x but does help get rid faster because before, bites would takes longer to get rid of.
Make sure you use it asap when noticing a bite and before scratching the skin, as that will make the healer hurt more, as I found out.
Saw this just recently on sale for what? $24.99? Worth it at msrp, especially if you get bit a lot.

Fast router, bad software
on May 14, 2021
Posted by: badradio
from ca
I keep going back and forth on the score. I decided on 4/5 due to the over simplified UI on the the app, with no way to connect to it otherwise.
Upgraded from the Asus Rog wifi6 router for the 6E for future advantage.
I have to say that this router is fast with good coverage in 2 story older house.
Setting up the router, user is forced to use the Linksys app to set up via Bluetooth is nice but limited. The app couldn't connect 3x to the internet. After a hard reset, the app still couldn't connect. Fail. Fortunately, initially connected with password was finally able to connect through the wifi settings on my phone, not the Linksys app however.
The pros on set up were that the app did ask me if I wanted to give network and PW different names, which is nice. However while I can check speed, I can't separate the ch. 2.4, 5, 6 ch. are combined and I have to assume the software will connect me to best ch. In the settings, they show you, but don't allow for changes. SIGH. Also no network diagnostic options to check network status either.
I would recommend this router, but software is far too limited!! I can limit the internet to my daughter on school nights, which is good, but that is about it. Even updating the router, there is no option to check for an update, even when auto update is on. Linksys seriously needs to update the app for more options, unbelievably baron. I feel if any future issues arise, I'm very limited in what I can do to remedy, other than turn off and on again or do a reset.
Recommend for novice users only, which is weird since router cutting edge tech.

Very useful portable ac unit
on March 30, 2021
Posted by: badradio
from ca
I live in Southern California where it can hit over 100 degrees in summer + no central air where I'm at. I've used small fans, giant fans, but nothing beats AC.
The GE AC unit comes with window adjusters to place the exhaust hose out a window. I had the unit up and running in minutes and immediately started cooling down my medium sized bedroom that has a PS5 / XSX in it. Description states 350 square foot and doesn't disappoint.
What is interesting, is no water is poured inside like some ac units. There is a tube where the condensed water (from using the ac) can be drained from. There is a slot for the remote control in back of the unit as well, which is nice, but also touch controls on the unit itself showing current temp timer options available too.
While I plan on using this AC in my room specifically, this will also be perfect for the upstairs landing area where the heat stays.

Amazing, thorough review
January 6, 2012
DROID is a trademark that Verizon paid Lucas Arts to use. Droid is not a company and not one that you should be addressing your complaints to, HTC is.
You should do more research into the products you use before writing about a phone you obviously do not know how to use.

The activitation requirement to have Steam is unacceptable and ridiculous. If you could activate without requiring an internet and steam connection, this would be a much more acceptable scenario.
