I've been enjoying Testament for the better part of thirty years, as "The New Order" (1988) was the first album I ever purchased, due to seeing "Trial By Fire" on Headbangers Ball in the fall of that year. Though there hasn't been what would be considered a stable lineup post 1992, the heart and soul of the band has remained intact. Eric Peterson and Chuck Billy have been the driving force for this band and with Alex Skolnick back in the fold since 2005, it's given the band an awesome lead player, with a ton of credibility, due to his status as a member of Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Gene Hoglan is a beast on drums and Steve Di Giorgio and his fret less bass round out a great rhythm section. The thing that amazes me after all of these years, is how Chuck Billy's vocal range has remained intact, especially when many of his contemporaries haven't. This is another solid effort from Testament. My favorite tunes are Neptune's Spear, Seven Seals, the title track and The Number Game. Though I really liked (2012's) "The Dark Roots of Earth", I think this is marginally better. The only thing I wish the band had done, like they had on the previous effort, was offer some sort of deluxe edition. I always love the extras.

I remember when Winger first broke onto the scene in 1988. I was knee deep into thrash music and didn't have much time for many in that (cough) glam scene, but for some reason I had time for Winger. I've always enjoyed their ability to write fun songs and what I consider listenable ballads. I've enjoyed all of their albums, because they have not only matured in their writing abilities, but they haven't sacrificed their oh so humble beginnings. In fact, they may have gotten better with each album? Though my favorite might still be "Pull" (1993), due to the fact that the album let the listener know you couldn't pigeonhole this band.
We jettison to 2014's "Better Days Comin' " and the five years since the very solid "Karma" was released. Maybe I give this band more of an opportunity to take me on a musical journey than others within the same genre, because many of their contemporaries I simply can't listen to anymore. For instance, on Def Leppard's latest self titled album, I find myself "wanting/hoping" to like songs. Their opener on that album is "Let's Go", which is nothing more than a recycled riff of "Pour Some Sugar On Me", which by the way, is an awful song. But I digress. Winger, simply doesn't employ such tactics or gimmicks, nor have they over the years. The riffs sound fresh and the musical collaboration between Kip Winger and Reb Beach sounds organic, so much so, it is as if they're playing together for the first time.
There really isn't a song that I don't enjoy on this latest masterpiece, but I find myself occasionally skipping "Tin Soldier". That song best represents Kip's fondness of his progressive rock yearnings, which are Yes, King Crimson and Jethro Tull. My favorites are the opening track "Midnight Driver of a Love Machine", "Queen Babylon", "Better Days Comin'", "Ever Wonder", "So Long China" and "Another Beautiful Day".
I probably won't revisit the DVD of this deluxe edition all that much, but I understand the intent behind it. If I were a musician, I think it's a nice blue print on how ideas come together and how musical pieces come to fruition. Granted, it doesn't show you the bickering between musicians that often take place, but that probably has more to do with twenty five plus years of working together. The two videos are a nice add on feature as well.
Enjoy...

Not great, good at times, at least adequate...

How Often Used:3-5 times a week
I was pondering within the first 2-3 weeks about taking these back. I wasn't finding them very comfortable and I experienced what other users were feeling, which was looseness after running more than a couple of miles. My problem is, I've never been able to find any head phones that I've been happy with, and even though I wouldn't say this set of head phones is great, I'm more or less pleased with them. They've never fallen out of my ears, but like many reviews, I experience looseness at times. Luckily the ear wraps seem to stay wrapped around my ears fairly nicely. I do finding myself pushing them into my ears every once in a while, which can be annoying, due to the fact that I also carry a drinking device. I would rather not have to worry about distractions while running, but until I can find something better, I will stick with these. My overall rating if they had half of stars would be 3.5

When I heard the first track leaked in that of 'Tatoo" (which had seemingly no energy at all and was a unreleased track from 1978 called "Down in Flames"), I for all intents and purposes wrote this come back effort off. The next song I heard was a one minute snippet of the beginning of 'Stay Frosty", which sounded like "Ice Cream Man 2". I was actually laughing at what looked like to be the most obvious of train wrecks. Then came the lame cover which was spreading across the internet, and on top of that a total ripoff of the Commodores 1975 album "Movin' On". Then came word that the song "Blood & Fire" was a re-written version of an instrumental used in the 1984 flick "The Wild Life". One would think that there was no way that this album would be likeable to my ears, but this was NOT the case. Yes, I still can't stand the song "Tatoo", and I think that "Stay Frosty" is the second worst song on this album, but the rest is essential Van Halen, minus the sorely missed backup vocals of Michael Anthony. This record could easily be sandwiched among everything up to that of "Fair Warning" and it certainly eclipses "Diver Down" and "1984" among the Dave era. Songs such as "She's the Woman", "Honeybabysweetiedoll" , and "Outta Space" simply shred...This is one time in which I was dead wrong in what I thought this album was going to be...

Very good E.P

It's kind of surprising to see the likes of "Just a Bullet Away" or "Rebel of Babylon" on the proverbial cutting room floor, since either one of these could/should have been on Death Magnetic, especially over the likes of the tired concept which was/is the Unforgiven legacy. That song sounded so out of place on the aforementioned. Anyhow, I think for $4.99, these four songs are a steal. Clearly there were better full length albums to gravitate towards in 2011, like that of Iced Earth's "Dystopia", Megadeth's "13", and Anthrax's vastly underrated "Worship Music" to name a few. With that being said, it was a pleasure seeing Metallica revert back to a style they had all but abandoned post "Justice" with "Death Magnetic" and what was the "Beyond Magnetic" E.P.
