John Hughes rolled out great film after great film throughout the 80's and up to the 90's. Most of his films were excellent but for people in my generstion, his films hold tremendous nostalgic value. Weird Science was just one of his many box office successes. Great flick and s very reasonable price.
When I came across the Great Outdoors on blu-ray, I was thrilled. Being a Best Buy exclusive until it's officially released on August 16, 2016, there were very difficult to find. Almost every BB store was selling out because of the limited # of copies they were given. I finally located one 70 miles from where I live. Great film, great transfer & appropriately priced.
I remember first time I saw The Professional, excuse me, I mean, LEON: The Professional, and I said to myself that Portman had superstar qualities. You really appreciate and buy into the characters, especially when the actors embrace the role. Here is a movie about a hitman befriending a little girl and teaching how to do "wet work", yet they are both very likable and are filled w kindness, eventhough they only show the love toward one another and never let others see their human side.
Price for this film was extraordinary. I owned the original DVD for a long while. Heard pic quality was significantly better on the released BD, so I purchased it w/out hesitation when I saw price. Glad I did, cause pic/sound quality was dramatically better, thus, viewing experience was better
This can be a tricky film to locate (by film, i mean blu-ray). When I walked into Best Buy and saw Reality Bites on the blu-ray "promotional" cardboard display, I grabbed it without a single moment of hesitation. Your classic early/mid 90's romantic comedy. Great movie with a very good price. I imagine they sold every copy before the distributor had them switch to the next display of promotional films.
Not every movie made, containing your fav actor, is going to be exceptional. Different plots and genres are enjoyed by different individuals. However, there are a few actors who are so good at their craft that they can take an otherwise ordinary & mundane film and make it exceptional. Denzel Washington is one of those types of actors. So when I come across a fair-priced Denzel Washington film, that I don't already have, i snatch it up instantly. The Manchurian Candidate Blu-ray movie is fairly difficult to locate in-store, regardless of the retailer. Denzel Washington movie + good pic & sound quality + excellent price = no brainer.
First off, I had no clue this film was available on Blu-ray. Secondly, I had completely forgot about this movie. Lastly, it was very reasonably priced. Often times, regardless of how good a film is, retailers will overprice the movie just because there isn't an abundance of stores carrying the film. Needless to say, I grinned when I came across this BR and snatched it up immediately. I have an enormous BR library and very very rarely do i come across a film that I truly like & don't have, already. Over the Top, while it will never be on the 'World's Greatest Films' list, it's a movie I enjoyed as a kid and holds nostalgic value, to me. Bet I've watched it 10x's since buying the film, from Best Buy. Surprisingly, Over the Top's BR transfer looks pretty good, considering the age of the movie and the grainy poor pic quality of the DVD.
This film, along w Liar Liar, Fast Times RH, Jerk, Fletch, Billy Madison & Happy Gilmore, is just a re-issued film w a new-look cover. 40 Yr Old Virgin's original BR release was not best I've ever seen, so I bought the 2016 release hoping it was a new release w new improved sound & picture quality. Needless to say, I was disappointed because I wasted $$ on something I already had. Not a single change was made to the overall quality of movie. Even the disc itself was exactly same as original release. I basically paid $7.99 for a new cover photo...which is almost identical to original w only difference being the picture of Steve Carrell is bigger and zoomed-in.
Price for this film was extraordinary. I owned the original Fugitive BR for a long while. Heard pic quality was significantly better on the re-released BD, so I purchased it w/out hesitation when I saw price. Glad I did, cause pic/sound quality was dramatically improved.
A classic movie from my youth. I rem seeing this movie several times on TV, when I was a kid. I rem thinking it was so cool. I saw that this was released on BD and I just had to have it. For only $9.99, it was a win-win. The picture quality is terrific & the film still grabs my attention after all these years. Its a little corny but its to be expected from a pg movie from 1985. Tons of nostalgic value.
