It took me a little bit to figure it out, but my first recommendation for anyone getting the headset is to install the Management software and Turn off the 'Sleep in X minutes if inactive'. It was a frustrating little niggle when I first started using it and they would go to sleep even though I was mid conversation.
As far as range and quality go, While I only live in a 1 bed room apartment, I can go anywhere within that apartment with them on and hear and be heard crystal clear throughout.
They're overall a little bulkier than I would like, if I had to give a complaint.

Better than the first game in almost every way

I think I can safely say that, if you enjoyed the first DQ Heroes game in anyway, you'll feel right at home in the sequel. The more open world design does a good job at making the world feel connected (even if the actual geography makes little sense) and fast travel is activated incredibly early.
The only real problem with the game is the massive grindwall that hits the post game, but that's a layover from the first game. There's also a bit of a multiplayer focus at higher levels in the postgame., but the online has been finicky, most likely due to a small community, if I had to guess. It runs fine when it works, but that when is more like an If.
