Tiny and awesome!
on April 2, 2021
Posted by: Daniel
from Saint Paul, MN
PROS:
- Corsair finally has a 60% keyboard!
- Cherry MX Speed switches
- 8000Hz polling rate
- Stabilizers are excellent
- Sturdy/well-built
- USB cable (USB-C to USB-A) is very long
- Customizable macros
- Customizable RGB

CONS:
- Can't adjust elevation
- No USB passthrough for mouse

== Setup ==
Setting up the K65 is super easy, regardless of the OS you're using. To take full advantage of what you can do with this keyboard, I would recommend using Windows. While it works just fine connected to my Linux laptop, you're going to want to use Corsair's iCue software.
While you can just plug in the K65 and use the on-board storage to map macros and adjust the RGB, I find it easier to do through iCue. From here you can do just about anything you could imagine for macros and lighting effects. You can even have different macros/colors for multiple profiles. Using iCue is also the only way you're going to be able to toggle the polling frequency (up to 8KHz).
== Daily Use ==
If you've never used a 60% keyboard before (like me), it's going to take some time to get used to taking advantage of the function shortcuts. Anything that you could do on a full-sized keyboard, you can do on the K65. While I don't use it all the time, I still think it's cool that I can use the function shortcuts to control the mouse cursor.
Since working from home, I love how much desk space has been freed up by going with a 60% keyboard. Since the K65 is so small, you can even have a full-sized ergo keyboard for work and still keep the K65 on your desk for gaming in the evening, without feeling like your desk is cluttered.
== Performance ==
While I can't say that the K65 has turned me into a better player, I absolutely enjoy using an actual mechanical keyboard for gaming over using my ergo keyboard (shocking, I know).
If you like to angle your keyboard for FPS games, having a small keyboard makes all the difference for comfortable playing. Having such a small footprint really lets you position your arms to whatever angle/reach is the most comfortable for you, even if you don't have a very large desk.
The accuracy of the K65 is amazing! I never felt like there were any missed keypresses, there were no duplicate hits, and everything was lightning quick. Cranking up the polling rate really does make a difference.
== Minor Complaints ==
Honestly, I really love this keyboard, it's perfect what I need for balancing work and play. I can have my full-sized ergo keyboard for work and switch to the K65 for when I want play. However, it's not a perfect keyboard.
I really wish that you could adjust the angle/elevation of the keyboard, but Corsair did not include tilt legs under the keyboard chassis. It may not be an issue for some people, but it would have been nice to have the option.
There's no USB passthrough, something that's common on many of Corsair's other mechanical gaming keyboards. While I can live without it, it would have been nice to have.
== OVERALL ==
I'm sure I'm not the only person who's been waiting a long time for Corsair to make their own 60% keyboard, so it's great to finally have the K65 on my desk.
This is a fantastic gaming keyboard without taking up a lot of space. If you're thinking about getting a smaller keyboard, I would HIGHLY recommend going to your local Best Buy and try out the K65 in person. It performs great and has a very satisfying sound and feel when typing.

The all new XPS 13 featuring 11th Gen InteI Core mobile processors, it’s now possible to enjoy incredibly immersive entertainment on a remarkably thin and light laptop. The stunning 4-sided InfinityEdge display enables us to bring a 6.8% larger 16:10 display to the 13-inch, all in a 2% smaller size than before, delivering a 91.5% screen to body ratio. 100% of the enclosure is sculpted by a CNC (computer numerical control) machining process. A high precision, machine-milled aluminum chassis creates an elegant design with high build quality that’s stronger and stiffer than magnesium or plastic.

Simply Amazing!
on February 18, 2021
Posted by: Daniel
from Saint Paul, MN
PROS:
- Small and light
- Thunderbolt 4
- Intel Evo
- Bright (touch screen) display
- 14:10 aspect ratio
- Excellent keyboard
- Great trackpad
- All day battery life
- Upgradable storage
- Fingerprint reader

CONS:
- Can't upgrade the memory
- No built in webcam cover
- Only two USB C ports means dongles/hubs
-- Setup --
The XPS 13 9310 is a small laptop with a rather small box. Inside the box is the laptop itself, a (quite small) 45W USB C charger, warranty and quick startup guide, and a USB C to USB A dongle. I'm very happy that Dell includes a dongle, since the XPS 13 only has two USB C (Thunderbolt 4) ports. If you are like me and need to connect your laptop to at least one external monitor and other devices, getting either a Thunderbolt dock or USB C hub is going to be a must.
Getting setup on the XPS 13 is no different than any other modern Windows 10 device: you go through the walkthrough to setup your profile and then log in with your Windows account (or create one if this is your first time using a Windows PC). Once you're in Windows, you can start installing all the software you need for work/school and remove any unwanted bloatware. The only programs I uninstalled were McAfee and Netflix, so Dell did a decent job of not putting on too much bloatware. They do have many of their own Dell programs, but I don't mind.
-- Hardware --
I was a little hesitant about the CPU performance on the XPS 13, since it's such a small and thin device. Thankfully, the cooling system does an excellent job and the 11th gen i7 is able to keep up (with very minimal fan noise) for all the work I need to get done.
One disappointing hardware feature is that the memory is soldered to the board, so if you need more than 8GB of memory later down the road, you're likely going to need to get a new laptop. Is 8GB enough for you? I'm currently using around 7GB with my average workload consisting of:
- MS Edge with 3-7 tabs (one for streaming music)
- Firefox with 1-3 tabs
- VS Code and/or IDEA/PhpStorm
- XAMMP with Apache and MySQL running
If you need to use a couple VMs, I would look at a different configuration with more memory.
Other than the performance, my favorite feature(s) is a tie between the display and the keyboard.
Dell has thankfully went with a 16:10 aspect ratio, which is fantastic for any text-based tasks. The display is very bright and colors look AMAZING. I can't think of a better display (either on laptop or a desktop monitor) that I've owned that looks as good as the one on the XPS 13. Since this isn't Dell's 4K display option, it will help with battery life.
The keyboard is by far the best I've used on a laptop. All the keys are large (for a small laptop) and have decent travel for how thin this laptop is. The keyboard backlight has two settings: bright and dim. Honestly, with how bright the screen is (even at the lowest setting) I have yet to really use the bright lighting setting. The only thing I could complain about the keyboard is that the up/down arrows are split keys and the carbon fiber used for the keyboard deck can collect skin oil (but is easy to remove/clean with a microfiber cloth).
-- Performance --
As long as you keep the memory limitation in mind, I doubt you could possibly be disappointed in how the XPS 13 performs. Even when I'm pushing the CPU, I don't notice any performance hit. The fans, while occasionally will ramp up depending on what you're working on, don't come close to what I would consider as "loud" for a laptop. Even if I was working in a library and the fans kicked in, I wouldn't be concerned about bothering anyone.
While Intel is really trying to make sure people know how well their integrated graphics are with the new 11th gen processors, I can't stress this enough: THIS IS NOT A GAMING LAPTOP. However, Intel is finally at a point where they can compete with AMD for integrated graphics. While you won't be able to play modern titles at high settings at +60FPS, you can still get away with some light gaming (I've been playing Hearthstone and Diablo 3 in my downtime).
With my current workload (listed above), Bluetooth disabled, and screen brightness around 30%, I'm getting between 10-11 hours of battery life. If you're away from the charger, you'll have no problem getting a full workday in. The charger is so small and compact though, I have no problem keeping it in the laptop sleeve I purchased for my XPS 13.
-- BOTTOM LINE --
I'm really impressed with the XPS 13. This may very well be the best looking Windows laptop available. Not only does it look amazing, but it's amazing to use. The display is fantastic. The keyboard feels great to use for long periods of time. The performance is outstanding, especially for how small this laptop is.
If you're looking for a solid-performing laptop that's not made of plastic, I STRONGLY recommend checking this out at your local Best Buy. You really need to see the display and use the keyboard.

Great to help with alergies
on January 24, 2021
Posted by: Daniel
from Saint Paul, MN
PROS:
* Low speed is VERY quiet
* Washable exterior filter
* Magnetic cable management
* Not as large as other purifiers for the rated room size
CONS:
* Loud on its higher speed setting
== Setup ==
There's no app to download and install. There's no series of menus to navigate. You just put on the external filter, plug it in, and select what speed you want the fan to run by tapping the power button. The internal filter is already installed and ready for use. I love how simple and easy it was to get going. If you're going to be buying one for a family member who isn't into tech, they'll have no problems setting this up on their own.
== Operation ==
The purifier has three fan speeds: low, medium, and high. Right now in the winter, I'll be keeping it on low, which is great considering that this can get louder than I originally expected. On medium speed, it sounds like a small-ish countertop fan, but would bug me if I was using it in my bedroom when trying to fall asleep. I keep it in the family play room, so running on medium later this spring+summer won't be an issue.
The internal filter is rated for 6 months, so be sure to set a reminder in your phone so you can buy a new filter ahead of time. The exterior filter is primarily for catching larger items, such as hair and dust. It's VERY easy to take off and put on, and you can toss it in with the laundry to clean it.
== Bottom Line ==
I really like having the Blue Pure 411+ in the playroom, it's not too loud and has a relatively small footprint (it's tall, but not very wide). The two-tone design looks very nice as well, plus you can buy other exterior filters in different colors if you want to change things up later.

Amazing if your home has stairs
on January 9, 2021
Posted by: Daniel
from Saint Paul, MN
PROS:
- VERY lightweight
- Does an excellent job cleaning small messes
- Not very loud
- Easy to clean the dirty water chamber
- Small, so it doesn't take up much space for storage
- Two bottles of cleaner included
- Scrub brush attachment included
CONS:
- Ideal for small spots, so might not be great if you have large dogs
I don't know what it is about the stairs to the second floor in our house, but our cat has decided long ago that it's her preferred place to go when she's feeling sick or has a hairball. This meant using a large/traditional carpet cleaner was difficult to do, forcing us to just use the carpet cleaner spray and a carpet brush, but no more!
This is SO MUCH better than trying to clean a spot manually. Not only will it help you clean up faster, but it will actually do a better job compared to the old spray-and-scrub method. I can finally have an actual carpet cleaner to use on the stairs without it being a hassle.
All you need to do is fill the top chamber with cleaning solution, power it on, press the "spray" button to get the solution into the spot you want to clean, use the brush to help the solution do its job to break up and remove the gunk from your carpet, and then tilt the PowerBrush to use its vacuum to remove the gunk and solution.
Bissell also includes two free bottles of cleaner to use in the box, which I really appreciate. You can buy additional bottles either off Bissell's website or from Best Buy as well.
BOTTOM LINE:
If you have pets and stairs, I would HIGHLY recommend considering this to help save your back from using a traditional carpet cleaner or manually scrubbing with a brush.

Insane, and I love it!
on November 27, 2020
Posted by: Daniel
from Saint Paul, MN
PROS:
- Customize almost EVERYTHING about this controller based on your needs
- Solid, premium build
- Braided USB cable
- Thrustmaster software helps you get the most out of the controller
- Included travel pouch
CONS:
- I wish the USB cable was just a little longer
== SETUP ==
Before you first use the X Pro controller, I would HIGHLY recommend going to the Microsoft store to download the most up-to-date firmware for it.
Using the Thrustmaster software is very simple and easy to customize the controller. You can adjust the trigger sensitivity and map what you want each of the buttons on the back of the controller.
In my opinion, the buttons on the back of the controller is what really makes this controller special. You can map the buttons to what helps you play, but it really helps to make one-handed play SO MUCH easier.
== PERFORMANCE ==
I ALWAYS prefer to use a controller with a cable in competitive games, so it’s no surprise there is no wireless option with the X Pro. The included USB cable is quite long and works very well with my PC, but if you plan to use it with your X Box and have a large living room, you may need to sit closer to the console than usual.
All of the button clicks feel very solid and premium. Customizing the sensitivity of the trigger buttons really does make a difference, and I really love that I can move the left stick position based on what feels more comfortable to play.
While it wasn’t an issue for me, the X Pro is quite hefty compared to standard controllers, so you may start to really feel the weight of it after a couple hours of playing.
== BOTTOM LINE ==
I have never loved a controller this much in my life. I really can’t find anything to seriously complain about. The closest thing to a complaint I can make is that I would have liked an extra foot or so on the USB cable. Everything about this controller screams “premium”. The buttons are super satisfying to click, the mappable buttons on the back can be serious game-changers, and customizable trigger sensitivity will make it IMPOSSIBLE to go back to a “basic” controller.
If you take gaming more seriously, I would HIGHLY recommend checking out the X Pro. If you spend the time, money, and energy to build up your system with the best components you can find, why wouldn’t you want the best controller to go along with it?

Fantastic for large households or hosting guests
on November 15, 2020
Posted by: Daniel
from Saint Paul, MN
PROS:
- So much coffee!
- Easy to clean
- Easy to setup scheduled brewing
- Takes up less space than I expected
CONS:
- I wish the power cord was longer
-- SETUP --
You really don't need to put anything together, since the water reservoir is permanently attached to the coffee maker. After taking the coffee maker out of the box, you just need to use some soap and water to clean the re-usable filter and carafe, then fill the reservoir with water and run it two times. After that, you're ready to start making the sweet nectar of the gods.
-- DAILY USE --
You can either prepare the night before using the programming feature, or just brew coffee whenever you need it. Running on brewing schedule really makes life easier in the morning, so that's how I have mine setup right now. After setting the the time when you first plug in the coffee maker, you can use the "Program" button to set what time you want your coffee to start in the mornings. From there, it's just as simple as cleaning+filling the filter with your grounds of choice, filling the water reservoir, and hoping the power doesn't go out while you're asleep.
With everyone working/studying from home, it's nice to be able to make a large pot of coffee once in the morning and there's enough for everyone to have at least one cup of coffee in the morning. Once having guests over is safe again, this 18-cup maker will really shine!
-- MAINTENANCE --
There's no special solution to buy from Bella. Once you have the little indicator showing it's time to clean the coffee maker, you can use a mixture of water and vinegar in the water reservoir and press the "clean" button on the coffee maker. Once it's done, just fill the water reservoir with water and run "Brew" a couple times to avoid having any vinegar in your next cup of coffee.
-- BOTTOM LINE --
If you're looking for a simple and easy to use coffee maker, or looking to buy one for a friend/loved one, this one is worth checking out. I love the high capacity and ease of use, with my only real "complaint" is that I wish the power cord was a little longer (this might not be an issue for you, depending on your kitchen layout).

Great for working from home!
on October 26, 2020
Posted by: Daniel
from Saint Paul, MN
PROS:
- Excellent battery life
- Outstanding mic quality
- Comfortable to wear with glasses
- Great voice audio clarity
- Very light weight
CONS:
- "One size fits all" could be an issue for some
- I wish music audio was better
-- SETUP --
Setting up the AfterShokz OpenComm is very easy. You have two options to pair your headset with your phone: (1) NFC or (2) traditional Bluetooth pairing in the phone settings. When pairing with your laptop/desktop (which is what I have my OpenComm paired to), it works just like any other new Bluetooth device: turn on Bluetooth on your computer, select "add new device", then press and hold the volume up button on the OpenComm for about 5 seconds until you hear the audio prompt telling you that the headset is now in pairing mode, then select the OpenComm in the computer Bluetooth "select device" option.
-- PERFORMANCE --
This headset is designed primarily to be used for calls and/or virtual meetings. Sure, you could listen to music as well, but the music quality isn't very good. If you want to listen to podcasts though, the OpenComm does a great job (but I would still prefer to use normal headphones if I'm not going to be on a call/meeting any time soon).
When paired with my phone, the mic quality on the OpenComm is so great, people were surprised to find out that I was using a headset. The mic quality really is amazing. I can't think of any other headset I've ever used that can come close to the OpenComm.
The same high-quality performance carries over to when paired with my computer as well. With transitioning to working from home, my only real headset with a mic was a gaming headset (thankfully it's a simple, low-profile black headset that doesn't scream "I'M A GAMER!!!" like other headsets). While it worked, it wasn't very professional. The OpenComm on the other hand, both looks AND sounds VERY professional. If you have longer hair, most of the headset is hidden away when people see you in the meeting. The mic quality just flat-out DESTROYS the mic on my old headset.
-- BOTTOM LINE --
If you have to be on calls or meetings throughout the week, I would HIGHLY recommend checking out the AfterShokz OpenComm headset. Since the headset sits just ahead of your ears, you can perfectly hear what's going on around you (which I appreciate while working from home and with my kids attending school virtually on their tablets, so they can ask me questions if/when they need help).
Just remember that this headset is designed for voice calls/meetings. Don't buy it if you're looking for something to listen to music with as well.

Replaces Three Appliances!
on October 7, 2020
Posted by: Daniel
from Saint Paul, MN
PROS:
- Takes up less space than my previous toaster oven
- Quick to finish pre-heating
- Menu is very easy to navigate and use
- No need for a dedicated air fryer or dehydrator
CONS:
- Non-dishwasher safe components
== As A Toaster Oven ==
One of my favorite kitchen appliances (after my coffee maker) is the toaster oven. It doesn't take up much space or use nearly as much energy as a traditional oven. It's quick and easy to make toast/waffles for the kids in the morning, or quickly cook a pizza for dinner.
The Ninja Pro oven gives you plenty of control and options, based on what you're cooking. You can set what rack level you're using and really dial-in on how well you want your items cooked. What really surprised me was how quickly the oven is able to complete pre-heating.
== As An Air Fryer ==
I really love the idea of one appliance that can (potentially) replace three appliances. No need for a dedicated toaster, no need for a dedicated dehydrator, or no need for a dedicated air fryer? Yes, please!
The air fryer I currently have is quite small, and now that everyone is eating more meals at home, I've been wanting a larger air fryer (more wings and tots!), so I was excited to see how well the XL Pro would perform as an air fryer.
I've tried a few house favorites: wings, tater tots, egg rolls, fries, and chicken nuggets/tenders. For breaded items, using the included air fry basket worked quite well, but there was some minor trial-and-error messing with cook times and temp to find the perfect cooking method. Trying different temps and times (and rack levels) was even more time-consuming when it came to trying to get perfectly crispy wings. I've had the best luck cooking frozen wings on the 3rd rack level at 400 degrees for about 24-30 minutes.
Ninja includes a handy little cooking booklet with several different recipes to try as well, but I've enjoyed just trying different settings/times to find what tastes the best for my family.
== As A Dehydrator ==
If you've ever used your oven to make jerky or apple chips, you'll feel very comfortable using the dehydrate feature on the XL Pro. I've had great results following traditional oven-style dehydrating recipies, but you do need to keep an eye on your items, since the XL Pro doesn't need as much time as a traditional oven. You'll likely need to do some minor trial-and-error to find your perfect results, but it's worth it.
== Cleanup ==
The racks, air fry basket, sheet pans, roast tray, and crumb tray are all non-dishwasher safe (according to Ninja). They all need to be hand-washed. They're pretty easy to clean, so I don't mind. It would have been nice if they could be placed in the dishwasher, but that's really my only complaint about the XL Pro.
== Bottom Line ==
I HIGHLY recommend the XL Pro if you're considering a toaster oven and possibly an air fryer, as you won't actually need multiple appliances for the same end result. It doesn't take up that much counter space, it pre-heats very quickly, cleanup is quick and easy, and you can cook your food quicker than compared to a traditional oven (and tastes infinitely better than something from the microwave).

No more water pitcher in my fridge taking up space

PROS:
- Much easier to install than I thought
- Filters are good for up to 6 months each
- Water pressure did not change
- No more need to have a filtered water pitcher taking up space in my fridge!
CONS:
- MAKE SURE YOUR HOME ISN'T USING COPPER/RIGID PIPES
- Space may be an issue, so make sure to measure before buying
Installing the filter system was much smoother than I expected. Honestly, the most challenging aspect of setting it up is working in a small space under the sink. The included instruction manual is very well written to ensure you have all the information without overwhelming you. You do need to have the flexible tubing already installed in your home for this filter system, so make sure that your home isn't using copper/rigid piping before buying.
The manual states that the filters should be replaced roughly every six months, so adding a reminder in your phone will be quite helpful. The only real downside is that you have to clear out about 1/2 of whatever you store under your sink to get to the filter, but it's only twice a year.
While I can't actually taste a difference, at the very least it's nice that I don't need to bother with our filtered water pitcher any longer. That alone made it worth getting this filter system!

Great space/outlet saver!

This charging pad has been super helpful, especially since my wife and I are both working from home now. Rather than leave our phones on their own chargers overnight, now we can just charge up our phones quickly and as needed (and with only taking up one outlet) at the same time in our office!
The non-slip ring around each coil helps to serve two purposes: ensure your phone won't slide off the charger and to help you make sure that you line up your phone with the charging coil(s) without needing to move your phone around to find the perfect spot to engage charging.
At the bottom center of the charging pad are two charging indicators, which lets you quickly look over at the pad to see if your devices are still charging.
I don't have any wireless charging earbuds to test, but all three of our phones that support Qi charging worked almost flawlessly. For whatever reason, my Sony phone would be MUCH warmer compared the Samsung and iPhone. It didn't get hot enough to make me not want to use the charging pad, since I expect just about any phone to get warm while wirelessly charging, but just be aware that some phones may get warmer than others.

No, neither the Pixel or Pixel XL have (an official) a water resistance rating.

The phone will be available unlocked (carrier free)? To not depend on Verizon for the Android updates. When?

Verizon Wireless doesn't lock their smartphones anymore:

http://www.verizon.com/about/consumer-safety/device-unlocking-policy

You can buy the Pixel from Verizon (while I'm sure they would prefer you use them over another carrier) and put in a SIM card from another provider without any problems. Software updates to the Pixel are going to be directly from Google (just like Apple with their iPhones), even if you're on Verizon.

It is an unlocked phone, so I assume it is compatible with SIM card from other countries - is that correct?

Yes, the Pixel and Pixel do not have a SIM lock. You can put in a non-Verizon SIM card and the phone will work just fine.

However, the Pixel and Pixel XL phones from Verizon (for whatever reason) are shipped with the BOOTLOADER locked. This means you can't flash a custom ROM on the phone.

Only at Best BuyChoose this HP Spectre 13 notebook for its crisp 1080p display and 13.3-inch screen. It comes with a sixth-generation Intel processor and 8GB of onboard RAM for efficient multitasking, and its solid state drive ensure that programs load quickly. The slim design on this HP Spectre 13 notebook provide enhanced versatility.

Online, the estimated battery life is 9.5 hours. How accurate is this estimate?

I guess it really depends on what you're doing, but I'm getting roughly 6 hours on a full charge.

I'm usually streaming music while doing research, typing up documents, or watching a YouTube video now and then. I also like to leave the keyboard light on and my screen is set to around 70% brightness.

I'm sure I could lower the screen brightness, listen to music on my phone rather than the Spectre, and turn off the keyboard light to get more out of the battery, but I doubt it would be the 9 hours HP claimed.

The laptop is brand new too, so it could be something that could be resolved with a software update down the road.

this laptop does not have many reviews, why? and would you recommend this product if I like Netflix, traveling and take notes at school and some light gaming

The laptop is still very new, so I would guess that's why there are not that many reviews for it yet. Give it a little time and more reviews should start showing up on the site.

As far as recommending the Spectre, I'm a student as well. I LOVE how light this laptop is. The screen may not be 4K, but it's still HD (1080p) and content still looks good. While the speakers are decent, I would still use headphones when watching Netflix. Taking notes is actually pretty good on the Spectre, since the keyboard is surprising great given how thin the laptop is. They keys actually have decent travel distance. If I could complain about the keyboard, it would be that they are a little loud, almost like a mechanical keyboard (I don't think it is mechanical, but I could be wrong).

The Spectre doesn't have a dedicated GPU, it has Intel HD graphics. You could get away with casual games (I like to play Hearthstone on the Spectre), but I don't think you would be able to get away with more graphic-intensive games like Doom.
