I spent $350 for the 3 year insurance after purchasing a new laptop from Best Buy and I actually needed to use it 5 months later. Well their services consisted of visually inspecting the laptop and being unable to find an issue so they would have to mail it off to get fixed. They are unable to perform any actual maintenance or repairs. I was then told I had to sign a waiver stating I knew and was okay with my laptop coming back with the memory wiped or because I already paid the $350 I could create a save point at the store for the LOW LOW price of $80.
The only other experience with Geek Squad I have had is when I needed to have windows reinstalled on a new hard drive and I did not want to wait 2 weeks for a recovery disc to be shipped to me. They took my computer in and I did not hear anything from them for a week because they messed my phone number up so when I called I was informed they were not able to install Windows from the windows website and they would need a recovery disc so I took my tower home. I was able to get a refund for data swap charges and installing the hard drive (I let them do that only because they were installing windows on the new hard drive). I received a message on facebook from a woman who had pictures taken off her hard drive and ended up with my pictures and was able to contact me because I had one picture of a pay stub that had my name shown.
I agreed to meet her at the store to bring her HER hard drive back which I had because it was suppose to be my old one. For some reason I happened to open the tower up and I noticed that the hard drive they did install for me did not have the cord from the drive connected to the computer which didn't upset me that much because I didn't end up paying for a hard drive to be installed (which was like 50 bucks and literally takes 5 minutes) but I feel like they have horrible, horrible service and poor policies in place for quality control. They ended up losing the screw that goes on the outside cover of my tower to keep the side on, they gave my old hard drive to someone else and gave me hers and she actually ran a business off her computer and needed that tower, and then the service I hired them for to install a new hard drive they did not actually do.
As a whole Best Buy is a great place to buy products because they price match with online competitor and their guys are knowledgeable about the products BUT Geek Squad is garbage and a complete money sink.

I purchased this laptop and not very long after I started having alerts pop up notifying me about an issue with the graphics when I was viewing web pages but I was able to find a relatively easy fix for that on google. 5 months down the road though my computer is not functional so I do what any insane person would do and I take it to Geek Squad to have them look at it because I also purchased the 3 year insurance for 350 more dollars. Well it turns out all they could do was visually inspect it and could not determine a cause and because Geek Squad is nothing more than a trumped up virus cleaner they would have to send off the computer which had a window of 10 days to 3 weeks for it to be repaired. I was told I would have to sign a waiver stating I knew and was okay with my computer coming back factory reset OR because I had already paid 350 bucks for the protection plan I could create a save point in their store for the low low price of 80 dollars so I chose option 3. I told them to give me my computer back and to cancel my geek squad protection and give me a refund for services not rendered which ended up being 300 bucks because they pro rated.
I took this laptop to an actual computer store who diagnosed it within 2 hours and traced the problem back to the GPU (graphics card) and informed me that this is a nice laptop with an i7 processor on it which was soldered onto the motherboard which ALSO had the GPU attached and so to fix my problem I would have to spend about 550 bucks to replace the entire motherboard. Being 5 months old they agreed I needed to contact ASUS about warranty work and so I did. They informed me they DO NOT ship postal boxes for items to be returned so I'm going to have to pay shipping and provide insurance for this laptop to be returned to them so they can hopefully fix the issue.
All in all the laptop was $1000, the $50 bucks wasted with geek squad, the $50 paid to the computer store for diagnosing the problem, and who knows how much I'm going to have to pay for shipping. Plus the battery on this thing is HORRIBLE and I will literally have to have it on charge at all times. Even on battery saver mode the battery only last 2 hours. I turn this laptop off when I leave work and the next day when I open it back up the battery is already at 50%.
I looked up issues on laptops involving the caps lock key being stuck on and the forum threads that popped up all related to ASUS and the insane amount of hardware issues they have. I also own a Lenova Yoga 3 and this computer compared to the ASUS is a godsend so my recommendation is to avoid ASUS as a brand because their quality control seems nonexistent and then the customer service is definitely lacking.
