Fair sound quality but a necessity for flat screen TVs which seem to have tinny sound. Ok for the price. Does not turn on automatically when I turn on Samsung TV with HTMI ARC connection but does turn off when the TV is turned off.

Does not Turn off Subwoofer like older Model

Works with YSP-5600 to wirelessly play sound in a subwoofer. I have a perfectly good subwoofer I bought with the earlier YSP-5100. The 5100 compatible subwoofer kit had an outlet to plug the subwoofer into so it turned it off when you turned off the 5100. This one does not so my subwoofer is on all the time although this unit itself turns off. Maybe it would work with a newer Yamaha subwoofer.

The sound is excellent. It is far superior to the previous YSP-5100. The MusicCast is not a feature I use but it seems to need improvement. Since everything is "smart" these days, it is not clear whether it is better to use the pass through this YSP-5600 or connect DVD Blueray player and cable box directly to TV and just pass the sound from the TV to the YSP-5600. Still experimenting.

Looking for advice on purchasing this tv without the extended warranty. Unfortunately the warranty puts this set out of my price range. Would you chance it or get the lower model Sony 900E with the 5yr?
We did not buy an extended warranty. Typically if a TV is going to burn out it will do it in the first 12 months. We still have our other two flat screens, One is 45" 15 years old. The other is 55" 8 years old. Both still work perfectly. Maybe we are just lucky.
