Good router that gives a little added distance

I needed a router that gave a little more range as it's on the first floor and the blu-ray player is in the basement on the other end of the house. I had some issues with the old router not handling streaming HD movies. This one works much better, not perfect but I'm happy.

Can I watch DVDs (movies) and do I need additional hardware or software for watching Blue Rays?
Windows 10 does not come with movie viewing software. A good free program to get is VLC media player. Not sure about Blu-ray DVDs other than the the unit in the computer must be capable of playing them. The spec sheet for the computer would tell you that but I think you would have to upgrade it.
