TheBoyEclectic's Reviews

The 9.7-inch iPad Pro delivers an unprecedented combination of portability and performance. At just 6.1mm thin and weighing less than a pound, iPad Pro features the brightest, most advanced Retina display ever with True Tone, advanced sensors that adjust the display to your environment for even more comfortable viewing. It has a powerful A9X chip with 64-bit desktop-class architecture, four speaker audio, advanced iSight and FaceTime HD cameras, Touch ID fingerprint sensor, ultrafast Wi-Fi connectivity, and up to 10 hours of battery life. When you add Apple Pencil with its pixel-perfect precision, and the incredibly thin Smart Keyboard, iPad Pro becomes even more versatile.*

Great iPad - But Not Cheap

Verified Purchase:Yes
My first iPad was an iPad 2. I later got an iPad 4th gen through work to use in meetings. My interest in the platform, though, has been for my creative work. I use my iPads mostly for creating digital art and music. It was for this reason that I could justify this purchase.
This tablet is more than I have spent on a computer in years. In fact, before I pulled the trigger I stopped and thought, I could get a pretty powerful desktop for this chunk of change. However, upon thinking further I was fine with this acquisition because of the apps I use on the platform to create my art and music.
I started generating serious digital art and MIDI music on an Atari ST back in the '80s (before there were color Macintosh computers). Over the years I moved from the Atari to the PC and to the Mac. But upon acquiring my iPad 2, I realized that I had truly found my artistic tool of choice. I found a couple dozen apps that allowed me to create fractals and layer them with digital photography and filter them until the became what I was seeing in my mind. And this series of tools became second nature to me in a way that Photoshop, Illustrator, and their plug-ins never did. Don't get me wrong - The Adobe Creative Suite is still my go-to toolset for design and layout. However, for my personal fine art work, the iPad is so much more comfortable to me. It's a more personal and intimate palette upon which I can work.
With this in mind, the power of the new iPad Pro 9.7 combined with the flexibility of the Apple Pencil became a no-brainer. I had to save for a while and pull a number of favors to afford it, but I hope to be using this for many years to come.
If you're curious about my art, Google "Ted Stahl Creative." I have a Facebook and a Bandcamp page for my art and music and you'll be able to see some of what I have done within the iOS environment.
On a final note, I wish to highlight two things: 1) The reason that I didn't give this a 5-star rating was because it was so expensive and that Apple still requires you to pay up-front for the storage you will need. They will probably never offer an SD card option for expansion. 2) As you evaluate whether or not this tablet (or iOS in general) is your solution, you should always look at the software (aka apps on this platform). Your hardware purchase should be dictated by what you intend to do with that hardware and the software available for it will either prove it's usefulness or confirm that it's lacking what you need. I would never say that iOS is better than Windows, OSX, Linux, or Android. Only you can decide if a platform has the tools you need to achieve your intended goals. Granted, there are always new products on the horizon, but you should make your decision based on what something can do NOW. Too many promises are not kept in the technology world.
I hope this is useful for some of you who read it.
Peace.
