Worked well immediately with laptop.
I had a previous HP mouse that worked well to start and died about 3 months in from Best Buy (this one is only a month old, so I can't swear to it lasting long)

Are you looking to replace it or add a second portable hard drive? They should work independently of each other. If you are transferring files from one to the other it doesn't matter the brand. You would be going through a computer to make the transfer and have to plug them both in.

does this mouse have on/off switch
Yes there is an on off button on the bottom.
You have to hold it in and the light will go out when it shuts off.
It's a good idea to preserve battery life.
But you have to turn it back on to use, (it won't shut off or start up on it's own)

Mouse not working
Mouse wont connect
I had a similar problem with my HP 3000 mouse.
After a couple months the laptop stopped reading the mouse. Even switching batteries did not help.
Probably a problem that you will have to return to resolve.
