Decent starter microphone for video/DSLR recording

I went with this Insignia model in the hopes that it would be comparable to the RODE Videomic but for a cheaper price, and I think it serves the purpose well enough. The high-pass filter helps with background noise, the build seems sturdy enough, and the shock mount works well against vibration. The only issue I could find is what seems to be a limited effective range. The mic range seems to drop off much closer than expected, especially outdoors, but overall still a good way to get better sound than a built-in mic.

Control your compatible touch-screen device with ease with this Wacom Bamboo CS140K stylus, which features a rubber nib for precise, pen-like movements. The polished anodized-aluminum body offers a stylish appearance.

Good quality but maybe too small and light

A slim design and a light feel are usually what I want in accessories, but since I use a stylus primarily for drawing/sketching, I've learned that putting too much pressure on the tip can tear them quicker. I set out to find a stylus that has more overall weight so that I don't have to push down as hard. I use Wacom tablets at work and home, so I know they make great products, but the Wacom Bamboo Solo isn't one of them.
While very nicely designed and solidly built, it felt too slight in my hand. The pressure needed to register a tap or stroke never seemed consistent, so I found myself having to push down hard constantly, and I knew it would only be a matter of time before this would be a problem with the nib. This may be fine for casual use or taking quick notes, but even then I'd recommend a microfiber stylus (which offers both light weight and better performance). For heavy use, I can't really recommend it at all.

Great films with not so great presentation
on June 5, 2014

These are some of my all time favorite war movies, but the high-def presentation of Patton and The Longest Day in this Fox 4-pack are disappointing. Tora! Tora! Tora! has always looked great and The Sand Pebbles is decent, but this version of Patton looks waxy and unnatural while The Longest Day is probably the worst looking of the bunch.
Looks aside, these films have all had separate releases that included extra features and documentaries, and most of those are missing from this set.
As for alternatives, a far superior version of Patton is available separately (look for the cover with the American flag in the background), or look for the special D-Day Remembered gift set that includes a remastered version of Patton, The Longest Day (still not great), Tora! Tora! Tora! and three other WWII films as well as special packaging.

What's great about it: Four classic WWII-era films
What's not so great: Horrible high-def transfer, missing special features

Beautiful film marred by murky picture quality

**This review is specifically for the current (2010) Blu-ray edition, not the film itself or other formats/versions.**
I've seen this film at least a dozen times, including its original theatrical run and I consider it one of director Michael Mann's best. I finally found this title at Best Buy for cheap, and now I know why. This is probably the worst transfer I've ever seen on Blu-ray in terms of overall clarity and brightness. It's simply far too dark, making it nearly impossible to discern what's going on at times (particularly during nighttime and indoor scenes). I understand the film—as with much of Mann's work—was originally shot in low or natural light conditions, but this is certainly not the way I remember it being presented in theaters.
On the audio front, this film is still has some standout sequences (the cannon volleys during the siege at Fort William Henry are absolutely ground-shaking), but long-existing source issues (listen to the all-too-obvious sound design work whenever water is present in the background) have never been fully resolved. Trevor Jones's orchestral work soars throughout the film (yes, even unnecessarily so at times), and lends the proper urgency to the foot chase sequence at the end of the film.
Overall, I'm disappointed with how this Blu-ray looks. That's only one part of the equation, but it's a crucial one for me. Others may have different setups, and therefore different opinions, but all things being relative, this is hands down one of the worst Blu-rays in my collection. I can't recommend picking it up if you've never seen the film, and certainly not if you're a longtime fan.

What's great about it: A great showcase of Michael Mann's talents outside of crime and present day drama
What's not so great: This Blu-ray release has a seriously flawed transfer

One of Denzel's best performances

This is more than just a movie about a pilot who saves a plane from crashing. This is about a man who tries to save his own life from crashing despite every bone in his body telling him it's impossible. For people dealing with substance abuse (and those around them), this is a deeply relatable story about people trying to find their way through the darkest times in their lives despite the great things they may be capable of.
Flight is also a return to form for Robert Zemeckis after years of putting out animated features. His first live action film since 2000's Cast Away (also based on a spectacular plane crash), Flight marks the return of one of the most imaginative and technically proficient filmmakers alive.
This Blu-ray release is one of the best I've seen this year, with absolute top quality video and audio presentations. It may be a little short on special features, but at the current price ($16.99) it's a great purchase.

One of the best Blu-rays yet

Life of Pi is an amazing tale of the human spirit and its ability to overcome adversity and loss through faith and sheer will. Backed by fantastical settings and imagery, the story of Pi's survival after losing everything is breathtaking and heartbreaking all at once.
The Blu-ray presentation is of the highest quality and the Best Buy exclusive e-book credit makes this one of the best releases I've seen so far this year.
What's great about it: Fantastic story, beautifully produced
