Nintendo got it right again

The more I played the Nintendo Switch, the more I realized Nintendo got it right again. The ability to take your console with you is the biggest benefit of the switch. Or how about the ability to purchase extra docks so you can move it from room to room? What it lacks, it doesn't seem to need. Don't compare this to XB1 or PS4 hardware. It's not that and they aren't a Switch. Nintendo made a great little console that's very unique in it's own way. For me, this thing is terrific and I'm very pleased with it.

Have the critics even played this game?
on February 17, 2014

After reading a number of bad reviews on this game I initially passed on it. Amazon recently sold this game for $25 so I thought I would take a chance and pick up a copy. After further review, this game is fun and much better than expected. I played all of the first generation kinect games and most of them were bad. This game is very responsive and easy enough to understand. Certain arm and leg gestures perform combinations such as dodging and counter punching or throwing your opponent.
Here's the problem as I see it. Just like the Xbox One's interface, you have to be patient and work with this new technology. Critics claim the Xbox One's menu system doesn't work or is unresponsive but that's not true. If you learn the commands and issue them correctly the Xbox One works quite well. This game is similar. You have to slow down and perform the fighting moves/combinations correctly and everything works. You can't just throw your arms around and get frustrated because you think Kinect isn't working. Also, the combination attacks are actually cut scenes. So you have to wait until the cut scene is over before you can expect Kinect to pick up your moves. I truly believe that's most of the critic's problem with the game. They are performing moves such as a kick during a cut scene and thinking it's not working. Do the kick after the scene and you'll find everything works. For example, using both arms if you push towards the Kinect it sends a command to pick up and throw your opponent. This starts the cut scene I'm talking about and you'll be tempted to want to kick your opponent while he's on the ground. But the cut scene doesn't end until you opponent stands back up. So if you start kicking while he's on the ground, your doing the kick motion during the cut scene and it might give you the impression it's not working. The cut scenes are seamless which is why it appears to be a problem with the game. After you figure this out, you'll wait until the scene is over and resume fighting. That's when you'll see how much fun this game can be.
Try it out...especially if you can pick up a copy for $25.
What's great about it: Very responsive, lots of characters, fun, good exercise
What's not so great: No online fighting

It has happened. The end of times is near, and hordes of the undead search for the living with brainless, relentless persistence. The city lies in ruins, and everywhere you turn, you see gore and destruction. You wander the city of Los Perdidos and every beat of your heart, every breath you suck in and every step you take is in an unending pursuit of survival. It's only a matter of time until the military swoops in and wipes the entire city, and everyone in it, off the map. So, while you're here, you've got to contend with swarms of zombies — but ultimately to survive, you have to get out.Prepare yourself for the next generation of zombie-slaying thrills in this third installment of the blockbuster Dead Rising series that features the stunning visuals made possible by your Xbox One. Overwhelming hordes of zombies with plenty of detailed gore are coming your way — and while they feature tons of variation, they also have a shared awareness that will make it that much more difficult to survive. Luckily, as you explore the massive open-world environment of Los Perdidos, you can pick up anything and everything and make it into a weapon. With hundreds of potential weapon combinations, it's up to you to decide how you want to end each and every brain-eating walker. With intense action and unmatched character customization, Dead Rising 3 takes the zombie horror to new levels by utilizing your Kinect to aid the undead in their hunt for blood. The horde can hear into your living room and respond to your at-home environment — so go ahead and flip off the lights, if you dare. See if you have what it takes to lay waste to the zombie hordes and make it out alive.

Was that really the ending?

Don't worry about the last gen graphics, this game is fun. It gets kind of repetitive at times but the variety of ways to combine weapons/cars and kill zombies keeps the game play fresh. To me, it's clearly one of the best Xbox One launch titles. My only gripe is the odd ending. In fact, this game has 3 endings depending on the choices you make during the game. And to be honest, i wasn't a fan of any of them. Other than that, I really liked the game.
What's great about it: Zombies, lots of zombies.
What's not so great: Odd ending? One of 3...

Your right foot twitches with anticipation — and maybe just a little bit of pre-race jitters — ready to push the pedal to the metal, sending your mechanical beast lurching ahead of your competition. A single drop of sweat drips between your creased brow and drops from the end of your clenched jaw, splattering onto the steering wheel where your hands are tightly clamped. You've learned the art of tunnel vision — blocking out the drivers to your left and right — seeing only the expanse of track before you. The starting flag hangs limply in the breezeless air. The roar of the excited, frenzied crowd is drowned out by the pounding of blood between your ears. You were born ready for this moment. The only option is first.Prepare yourself for a thrilling, adrenaline-pumping automotive experience with Forza Motorsport 5, which offers leading simulation and next-generation graphics engines, so you feel as if you're really strapped in the seat — zooming around some of the world's most legendary racetracks. Let your opponents know you mean business by using your vehicle to push them into the wall — leaving in your wake a tangle of metal and busted parts with high-resolution damage modeling. Continually hone and develop your skills by facing an ever-evolving network of lifelike competitors with Drivatar technology, and even compete against your friends' top times. With an Xbox LIVE Gold membership (not included), you can enjoy exhilarating multiplayer races with Smart Match matchmaking, which pairs you with individuals who complement your own unique way of driving. When the race is finished, upgrade your vehicle by downloading from a diverse array of globally recognized cars — months before they're even available to consumers in the showroom, and make sure your car reflects your own personal style by giving it a custom paint job. Not sure why I'm not a fan of Forza?

Driving games fall into two categories: Simulation and crazy unrealistic. So it really depends on which type of driving game you prefer. It's like comparing NFL Blitz to the Madden franchise. Forza is a driving simulator first and foremost. And that's my problem with the game. I shouldn't compare it to Need For Speed but that's the kind of driving game I prefer. Granted, the graphics aren't nearly as good as Forza but it's a lot more enjoyable. NFS gives you the sensation of really driving fast whereas Forza doesn't really do that for me. To be honest, Forza is kind of boring?

One of the best games available on the Xbox One

I did not initially purchase Ryse because of the bad reviews. But a combination of reward zone credits and great sale price led me to pick up a copy and try it out. I was totally blown away at the graphics and game play. This might be the best fighting game since the Arkham series. The fighting is so smooth and at times will wear you out. The graphics are top of the line, a true display of next generation horse power. And the story is fantastic but seems a little short. In fact, that's my only knock on the game is the fact that you can finish it in a weekend. But this game has me wanting to play more. So I don't have a problem with going through the campaign again at a more difficult level. If you haven't played Ryse yet because of the negative reviews, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy today.
What's great about it: Graphics, Fighting Mechanics, Story, and Graphics.
What's not so great: Not enough variety of enemy characters, overall a short campaign

More than a gaming machine
on January 31, 2014

This is so much more than a gaming machine. To me, one of the best, and lessor known features, is Xbox Fitness. This alone is worth the price I paid for the Xbox One. There is so much free content you could literally do a different work out each day.
Another nice feature is the interface. I know there has been some negative press about the interface but it's really well done. I believe most of the negative press is user error rather than a bad interface. The Xbox One is very specific and the quicker you learn the commands the better it responds. For example, if you say, "Xbox On", the unit turns on and sends a command to turn your TV on. But you have to say it exactly like that...Xbox on. To turn the unit and your TV off you simply say, "Xbox Turn Off". See the difference? I'm guessing some people say, "Xbox Off" and it doesn't respond. Trust me, the interface works as long as you use the correct command.
If you are on the fence between the PS4 and the Xbox One give the Xbox One a try. Xbox has more titles and it's far more than a gaming machine. It's very cool to talk to the Xbox versus reaching for a remote. An perfect example is telling Xbox to "Mute" or "Turn up/Turn Down" the volume on your TV. With Sony, you have to have your remote close by. Both consoles are in need of more games. And both do streaming and blu-ray playback.
I've been using my Xbox since launch day and I'm very pleased with it.
What's great about it: Interface, Games, Quiet, Kinect
What's not so great: Lack of content...for now.

Don't listen to the negative reviews. Having owned the Nike Fuelband, Fitbit Ultra, and MotoActv I can say the Fitbit Flex is my favorite device. Comfort and accuracy is what's important to me and Fitbit does it better than anyone else. I really like the stats and the ease at which it syncs to my iPhone/iPad. I know, it has a limited display but that might be the reason this thing is so lightweight and comfortable to wear. The 5 LED lights are just enough to communicate to me how my day is going. And the tactile response when I complete my goal is awesome. Fitbit tracks stats like no other device I've owned. And their website and apps are very nice. I highly recommend this device if you enjoy working out and looking at the stats over time.

Much better than expected

This was one of the best movies from 2011. The visuals are well worth the price of the movie. I put this one off for so long because of the bad reviews about the animal killings but they were exaggerated. Disney did a good job of letting you know what takes place without showing you anything. Also, Samuel Jackson does a great job as the narrator.
What's great about it: Visuals, storyline, Samual Jackson's narration
What's not so great: Nothing

Not bad but could be better

Do yourself a favor and return this product and purchase the Marware case from amazon.com. This case isn't bad but for $29.99 you can have the best case available for the Kindle Fire. This case isn't bad if you have to have one now. But for $10 less, why settle for an inferrior case?
Speaking of the Kindle Fire, why isn't Best Buy allowing anyone to post reviews on the Kindle Fire? It's a great product and I find it odd that Best Buy doesn't want anyone to submit a review on it. I'm guessing it's because of the sub par reviews? But in my mind the critics are wrong. Pick up a Kindle Fire and get a Marware case and you'll be very happy with your purchase.
What's great about it: Nice fit
What's not so great: Not as good as the Marware case

I'm not sure why this movie received such bad reviews? The movie itself isn't bad. At times the action slows down but the visuals more than make up for that. If you can get this one on sale it's not a bad title to add to your bluray collection.
What's great about it: Visuals and special effects
What's not so great: Kind of reminds me of the fantastic 4 movies...not the best super hero movie but not bad.
