Great budget tablet. Great for kids & even adults

======= Summary =======
The Amazon Fire HD 8 is a great tablet for the price. With its 8" 720P HD display, dual Dolby Atmos speakers, 32GB of internal storage, and a quad-core processor, the Fire HD 8 offers decent performance, great battery life, and a good viewing experience.
======= My Impressions - Hardware =======
I like the design of the Fire HD 8. It's not premium nor made of any fancy materials but it's sturdy, light, and has good weight distribution. It's comfortable to hold and use and easy to carry around. Even with the gigantic and rubbery Kid-Proof case wrapped around the tablet, the weight is still manageable and still ergonomic. The biggest testament to my evaluation is seeing how easily my 3-year-old toddler can hold and use the tablet. She has no trouble carrying it around and playing the next Youtube video.
The Kid-Proof case is really great. My little girl dropped it several times already on both hard and soft surfaces and there's been no damage at all to the Fire HD 8. The case is soft and rubbery and easy to clean up. I really like that.
The 8" 720P screen is pretty good. 720P resolution on an 8" screen still offers good sharpness and detail and I have no complaints. I found the auto-brightness to be kind of inaccurate and slow to adjust. It dimmed the content too much under normal lighting conditions. So I had it changed to Manual mode and set it at around 70% for indoor use.
The sound from the dual Dolby Atmos speakers is nice, loud, and clear. It's definitely better than most smartphone speaker setups, even the flagships.
32GB of internal storage is more than enough for my household and I appreciate the expandability of storage via the microSD slot. I haven't popped in a microSD card yet but it's good to know it's there for when it's needed.
The 2MP camera is horrible. It's slow and the pictures it takes are very grainy and there is a great loss of color and detail. I guess it's better than not having any sort of cameras but I wish Amazon had included at least a 8-MP camera.
The Fire HD 8 comes with a Mediatek MT8163 quad-core chipset and it is on the slow side, especially if one compares the performance to modern flagship smartphones from within the past couple of years. App installations slow down the system and opening too many apps will introduce lag. This is no problem for my toddler who only likes to watch kids' videos on the Fire HD 8 but for myself and my wife, the performance can be frustrating at times.
For the price I paid for the Fire HD 8, however, I'm content and satisfied with the hardware aspects of the tablet. The Fire HD 8 fulfills my family's and my toddler's needs completely.
======= My Impressions - Software =======
Being a long-time Android user, I did not like Amazon's FireOS very much. So from Day One, I sideloaded the necessary Google apps into the Fire HD 8 to hide FireOS and convert it into an Android setup that I'm used to. I'm currently using Novalauncher as my home screen launcher and I have installed many of my Android apps into the Fire HD 8 as well. I get app updates directly from the Google Play store.
Typing is done through the Google Gboard keyboard and I also have Google Assistant.
After this "conversion," I find the Fire HD 8 to be highly more enjoyable. A downside to this "conversion" is reduced system performance after the tablet has been on for a few days. In order to solve this performance loss, I installed a couple of apps to bring the fluid performance level back - "Cache Cleaner" by Frozen Developers and "Memory Booster - RAM Optimizer" by AIO Software Technology CO. The Fire HD 8 is now always fast and performant and I no longer need to reboot the tablet every few days.
In order to obtain software updates, I still have to go through FireOS's Settings app. I've received a couple of OS updates since I purchased the Fire HD 8 back in November of 2017. These updates were seamless and non-disruptive. I'm still disappointed at Amazon, however, that the Fire HD 8 is still on Android Lollipop (5.1). I would've expected at least Android Nougat.
Again, for the price I paid for the Fire HD 8, I'm satisfied and content for what I get hard- and software-wise. I'm just grateful that I can add Google services and apps to the Fire HD 8 without much hassle.
======= So, is it any good? =======
Definitely. The Fire HD 8 (2017) offers great value for not a lot of money. If one is purchasing this for a child in the family (like I did), then it is an especially fantastic and safe choice. The tablet is easy to use, has decent hardware, and comes preloaded with kids- and family-friendly apps from Amazon. It's a good buy.

Cover your Galaxy S9+ in something practical with this soft-touch Samsung silicone case. Its softshell style conforms to your device for a snug, secure fit, and its nonslip exterior helps prevent accidental drops and falls. This black Samsung silicone case is lightweight and slim, so it doesn't add unwanted bulk.

Nice light & grippy case

I've been using Samsung's silicone cases since the Galaxy S8 series and I still love them. They're light, has perfect fitment, is durable, soft-touch yet very grippy, and the feel is so nice.
Naturally, all the ports and openings are perfectly aligned and easy to access.
I've tried several types of cases in my smartphone history - rubber, TPU, leather, fake leather, carbon fiber, rubberized plastic, hard plastic, alcantara. My favorite type is this case's soft-touch silky Silicone type.
I also experienced no issues with Wireless Charging and Samsung Pay. The case doesn't hinder the functionality of the Galaxy S9+ at all.
I highly recommend it.

Good cable but didn't work for me

Based on the specs, build materials, and feel, this is a good quality cable. The cable, unfortunately, didn't work out for my specific hardware combination. That is, I wanted to directly connect my Samsung Galaxy S8+ smartphone to my late-2017 HP Spectre 13 laptop (8th-gen Intel Core i7).
Despite installing the newest Samsung USB drivers and laptop drivers and trying the connection on all three USB Type C ports on my laptop, I just could not get my Galaxy S8+ to be recognized and connect.
I believe the problem is with the HP Spectre 13 laptop and HP's weird, stupid policy when it comes to USB Type C cable compatibility.

Gorgeous laptop, great performance, decent battery

======= Summary =======
The HP Spectre 13 (2017) in Ceramic White is a very nice laptop that is gorgeous-looking, attractively designed, thin, light, very fast, and well-constructed with premium materials. A couple of minor shortcomings include lack of ports and just a decent, not great, battery life.
======= Design =======
Just wow~!! The Spectre 13 in Ceramic White is highly attractive~! For me, it's the best-looking laptop I've ever laid my eyes on. Several adjectives sprang into my mind when I first saw it - gorgeous, beautiful, awesome, pretty, sophisticated, elegant...You get the point. I really LOVE its design. :D
More specifically, I like the design for its slimness, thiness, and lightness (2.4 lbs). The laptop feels premium and solid with no creaking, no wobbling, and no loose hinges.
I also like the Ceramic White color paired with the Pale Gold. It's smooth to the touch and resists fingerprints very well. Being a fan of both white and gold colors, my house and rooms contain white furniture (including my desktop PC and its accessories). The Spectre 13 fits in perfectly. The white lid, however, scratches very easily. So be careful and try not to put anything on top of the laptop. Not all scratches can be buffed out.
Other design touches I like are the speakers located above the keyboard area. As a result, the sound is louder and closer to me when I watch videos and listen to music. Brilliant~! With the speakers up there, HP was able to make the keyboard go edge-to-edge and give the keys more spacing which resulted in a more comfortable typing experience for me. I don't like keyboards where it is too cramped and the keys are too close to each other.
Speaking of the keyboard, the typing experience is wonderful. The keys have good travel, it's well-dampened and respond very well, and feels nice under the fingertips due to its matte coating. It's not slippery and it's not sticky-feeling either. I think it's just right with good grip and texture and a springy feel.
The Synaptic TouchPad is nicely sized and I like that it's centered and not off to one side. It's smooth and solid-feeling and my fingertip glides across it very easily and precisely. The button presses (Left-Click and Right-Click) require more force than I like and more than what I'm used to but I did get used to it.
If there is one design feature I wish HP had done differently, it would be for them to place some USB Type C ports on the side of the laptop. I know they couldn't because they wanted to make the laptop thinner but I still wish they had at the expense of a couple of millimeters of extra thickness.
Overall, I give the Design a 9.8 out of 10.
======= Display =======
The 1080P Full HD display is bright and crispy with great viewing angles, color fidelity, and accuracy. There are absolutely no complaints here.
======= Speakers =======
For laptop speakers, I find the sound volume and quality to be above average. Thanks to its location above the keyboard, the sound is closer and louder. The bass, as expected, isn't great but that is expected from such a thin and light laptop chassis.
======= Network & Connectivity Options =======
The 2x2 MIMO Wifi and Bluetooth 4.2 performance are excellent.
======= Ports =======
With just 4 ports - one Audio Jack and three USB Type C - I feel kind of restricted and inconvenienced. I know why HP did this - to make the world's most thinnest laptop and looking toward the future. Still, I miss having an HDMI port, a SD card reader, and some USB Type A ports. It was nice that HP included one USB Type A to USB Type C dongle in the box. For my needs, though, I will be needing and getting a USB Type C hub that supports at least HDMI and USB Type A.
======= Performance =======
With the 8th-Generation Intel Core i7 8550U CPU (4 cores, 8 threads, 1.8GHz boosted up to 4 GHz), 8GB of DDR3 RAM, 256GB NVME PCIe SSD, and the Intel UHD Graphics 620, the Spectre will plow through everything very fast except for graphic-intensive 3D games. Opening Chrome or Firefox with ~20 tabs doesn't slow the machine down. Multi-tasking with multiple applications and background processes is also very good. Installation of large filesize applications, such as Office 2013, goes by very fast. Love it~!
Bootup time is super fast and all the apps, processes and services that kick in upon startup load very quickly.
As for upgradeability, only the size of the SSD is user-serviceable. The RAM is soldered to the board, which is a shame. I will be upgrading to a 1TB SSD in the near future.
Since I don't game on a laptop, the performance of the Spectre is a 10 out of 10 from me.
======= Typing and TouchPad Useability =======
As mentioned above, I have absolutely no issues with the keyboard and I love everything about it.
The Synaptic TouchPad, however, left me feeling wanted. I REALLY wanted a Microsoft Precision Pad due to its great support for 3-Finger and 4-Finger custom gestures. The options available from Synaptic is just so-so and I had a really difficult time adjusting to it from using a Precision Pad for a while. I was so used to custom finger gesture shortcuts for navigating around, it felt like a rude awakening and a massive downgrade having to use the Home, End, Pg Up, and Pg Down keys again.
Luckily, I found a solution~! The app is called "MultiSwipe" and it costs just $5.00. It works on the Spectre 13 and allows me custom-program 2-finger, 3-finger, 4-finger, and 5-finger custom gestures~!! I'm a very happy person now. :D
======= Battery life =======
After experiencing dismal battery life for the first 2-3 days (most likely due to all the background Window Updates), I'm now experiencing pretty good battery life. I can easily obtain 6 to 8 hours of battery life before needing a recharge, which is more than good enough for me. In addition to charging the laptop via the included wall power adapter, one can also charge up with a power bank and a USB Type C cable which is very, very cool.
======= Pre-Installed Software =======
There were several Microsoft-included apps and "bloatware" I didn't need so they were almost all uninstalled. It wasn't too bad though.
I kept all the HP Software because they're actually useful and will help me keep track of driver and BIOS updates.
======= So, is it any good? Is it a good buy? =======
Yes and Yes~! Out of 10, I rate the HP Spectre 13 laptop a 9.5 out of 10. It gets right the main crucial and important aspects of a good laptop experience - easy portability (thin, light, and good battery life), bright & crispy display, superb fit-and-finish with premium build materials, excellent keyboard, pretty good touchpad, fast storage (user-upgradeable), fast performance, and stable software. Supporting more ports (HDMI, USB Type A) and including the PrecisionPad would've increased the overall score to 10 out of 10 for me. With that said, this is a high-quality and premium machine from HP.

The world's best phone
on August 6, 2017

Despite initially deciding to skip the Galaxy S8 generation, I ended up getting the Blue Coral GS8+ and I'm loving it! I hesitated because I was using the Galaxy S7 Edge on the 935U Unlocked firmware and it was doing everything I needed it to do without any issues. Battery life was great, it was fast & smooth, the cameras were excellent and reliable, and I had read that the GS8 wasn't a huge upgrade in terms of SOC, screen, camera, and battery life.
Although it is true that the change in the design language of the Galaxy S family is the only major change when going from a GS7E to a GS8, I still like the phone very much. I like the new design direction with the Infinity Display, upgraded front camera sensor, slightly improved rear camera, larger 64GB base storage, and comparable battery life to the GS7E.
Samsung's UI is getting better and better with every generation and I have no issues with the software. Despite having used Nexus phones for years, I prefer Samsung's UI over Google's spartan "stock Android."
I still use and appreciate the phone's IP68 water resistance, Samsung Pay, and the great synergy with my Gear S3 Classic smartwatch.
And I'm so happy that Samsung introduced Coral Blue for their Unlocked models as well. If they hadn't, I probably would not have bought a GS8.
Because this is the Galaxy S flagship of the year, there are no shortages of great cases and accessories to be found. I've already purchased four cases, a TGSP, some USB-A to USB-C adapters, and a power bank.
All in all, this is a great phone with a good balance of everything. Fast & latest-tech SOC (Snapdragon 835), quick-focusing and reliably good cameras, premium-look design with premium in-hand feel, good battery life, and nifty additions such as Samsung Pay, Gear VR, fast wired & wireless charging, and IP68 water resistance.
I highly recommend the Galaxy S8+.

I purchased the Chromecast Ultra after purchasing a 55" 4K TV and it has been a pleasure to use. I was already familiar with Chromecasts as I already own the 1st-generation Chromecast. Compared to the 1st-gen, the Ultra is faster. And I appreciate its ability to show higher-definition content.

Good cleaning power but unreliable

I give this 3 stars out of 5 due to its unreliable performance. On some days, it will work really well. On other days, the motor doesn't operate/vibrate well and the toothbrush hardly moves when I'm trying to brush my teeth. When that happens, I have to use my old-fashioned manual toothbrush and do it by hand instead.
This toothbrush is fully charged every night so I don't know what causes this erratic motor/brushing performance.
This was my first experience with an electrical toothbrush and it was been a so-so and lackluster experience.

Great washing machine with some quirks
on May 27, 2017

We purchased this washing machine for its greater volume capacity despite our smaller washing machine still being operational and working well. We have some thick king-sized blankets that simply wouldn't fit inside the older, smaller washing machine that we had to get cleaned at one of those laundromet stores. Not wanting to make such trips anymore and wanting to wash everything at home, we got this. And it has been working beautifully.
This washing machine was cool design, washes & cleans well, easy to operate, and we LOVE the washing volume capacity.
I recommend it!

Can this unlocked phone use Samsung Pay? I heard last year the Note 7 was not compatible with Samsung Pay if it was an unlocked phone (not sure if that was true or not). Additionally, are there any downsides to getting it unlocked?

Yes, Samsung Pay works just fine.

Some downsides of getting an Unlocked model is that some carrier-specific features might not work such as VoLTE, carrier visual voicemail, and Wifi calling.

Watch favorite programs in Ultra HD with this LG smart TV. Its 4K resolution provides image clarity and brilliance, and its 4K upscaler optimally enhances the quality of lower-resolution video content for a near Ultra HD viewing experience. Is this tv slow? Is it very noticeable

For me, the TV felt a bit laggy when changing input sources and making a change, when cycling through the settings menus, and throughout general navigation. And I was coming from a ~5-years-old 1080P Samsung TV. The cold start of the TV, however, is pretty fast.
