The success of Mark Waters' remake of Freaky Friday certainly helped the decision to release this fine DVD of the original. The widescreen anamorphic transfer preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1, and will be a treat for anyone who has only seen this movie on television. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. A French soundtrack is available as well. Spanish subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a featurette hosted by Jodie Foster in which she reminisces about the making of the film, and a memory game. Disney has also made a two-pack featuring both versions of the film available for purchase.
Frank Marshall's drama about a rugby team trapped in the wilderness, Alive, comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. An English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Surround, while a Spanish soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Stereo. There are no subtitles, but the English soundtrack is closed-captioned. Supplemental materials include an introduction by the director, and a look at the real events this film is based on. This is a fine release from Disney/Buena Vista.
