"Her" has a lot going for it: an intriguing concept, an excellent cast, and a terrific director. The characters, however, are insufferable narcissists bent on chasing their own bliss. After all of the hype, I was let down.
Narrated by Mike Patton! "Bunraku" is a fantastic movie. Visually, it's like a living cartoon, with creatively assembled wall-to-wall action scenes. A film which I'm eager to revisit!
Slow-building story about a group of men hired to perform a suicidally dangerous task. Absolutely riveting storytelling -- one of the most incredible suspense films of all time.
"Joe" represents one of the Nicolas Cage movies you watch when you want to remember that he also sometimes makes movies that aren't horrible dreck. Great performances all around, and a story that's well worth a look.
"The Raid 2" is one of the better sequels ever made. Building on the successes of the first film, it expertly ups the ante in every way, drawing the viewer into a much larger story. Highly recommended, but not for the faint of heart!
"Prince Avalanche" is a terrific indie film, deserving of a much wider audience than its received. Rudd and Hirsch are great, here, both displaying a good deal of range from previous roles. Hilarious and insightful, with beautiful photography.
Expecting a terrific lead performance by Bruce Dern, I was not disappointed. Dern is excellent here, as are his costars, in a film that earns the feelings it elicits from you. Highly recommended.
Having read many negative reviews for "The Counselor", and few positive ones, I was prepared for the worst. Truly, what's onscreen here doesn't live up to the promise of the combined talent involved with its making (both in front of and behind the camera). But it also manages to avoid devolving into sheer drudgery.
"House" needs to be seen to be believed. It's probably one of the craziest, most bizarre films ever produced. Funny, spooky and gross, but genuinely off-its-rocker insane.
