Not the best Third Eye Blind album
on November 15, 2016

I have always loved Third Eye Blind. Stephan Jenkins is one of my favorite singers and songwriters. However, for me, they have never released an album where 100% of the songs were great. There are always one or two that are mediocre, or rub me the wrong way, or are just downright bad. Usually, though, the albums lean more toward the "great" side as opposed to not.
"Dopamine" is not one of those albums. It has some good songs, but more mediocre than not. They originally said this would be their last album, but have since released an EP. Let's hope they keep going, and that they can find their sound again with the new lineup.

The Early November strikes again
on November 15, 2016

I was pleased when The Early November announced they were reuniting back in 2011. They were very influential on me as a youth, and it was a long five years without them.
However, I believe the hiatus made them all better musicians, and their first release since reuniting, "In Currents", was a return to form, and a masterpiece by TEN standards.
"Imbue" is not as good as "In Currents", but it has its highlights. While it might not be a flawless effort, I'm still glad TEN is back.

Decent Final Fantasy game
on November 15, 2016

I was really excited to hear about this game when it was first announced - only to find out it would be a Japan-only exclusive for the PSP. When they decided to localize it and enhance it for the PS4, I was ecstatic.
The game itself has some fun combat mechanics, and an interesting storyline (reminded me a bit of FFVIII with the school aspect). However, I didn't feel the graphics were updated enough to warrant a release to PS4. Maybe PS3.
Still, I would recommend trying it.

Brilliantly crafted companion album to Cope
on July 18, 2015
Posted by: CapZylo
from Salt Lake City, UT
How often does a band release an album, and then shortly after announce that they have reimagined it in a different way for a separate release? That's exactly what Manchester Orchestra has done with their newest release, Hope.
After releasing the album Cope in April 2014, the band decided to rewrite each song in a toned-down, acoustic fashion and re-release it under the title Hope. They provide an excellent juxtaposition to each other. Cope is presented in such a way that it seems to explore the darker side of life's trials and tragedies. How sometimes, when the weight of the world is held on your shoulders, all you can do is keep your head down and expend all your effort to simply avoid being crushed into pieces.
Hope, on the other hand, suggests that if you look up instead of down, you might see light, and beauty, and just that - hope. Why simply cope with your difficulties when you could hope for the benefits of making it through to the other side?
Songs are written and rewritten, mixed and remixed, released and then covered and re-released, all the time. But never before have I been able to experience the two sides of a single composition in such a sublime and fascinating way. Manchester Orchestra knows what they're doing - stick with this one for as long as they keep creating.

Another solid release from Circa Survive
on July 18, 2015
Posted by: CapZylo
from Salt Lake City, UT
I used to claim Circa Survive was my favorite band. Juturna, On Letting Go, and Blue Sky Noise were all excellent albums, proving that Anthony Green and his bandmates are some of the most talented songwriters and musicians currently in the industry. But their last two releases - Violent Waves, and the most recent Descensus - have failed to connect with me. Or maybe I just failed to connect with them.
There's nothing wrong with Descensus. While it seems the band has steered in a harder and more raw direction over the past few years, their hooks and melodies are still as significant and entrancing as ever. And the lyrics continue to push above the mediocre into the surreal, with Green's vocals raging and taking them into the stratosphere.
From a completely objective perspective, Descensus is solid and worthwhile. From a subjective perspective, perhaps my own personal tastes haven't progressed in line with Circa's continued evolution. But that doesn't change the fact that they still know how to tear the place apart and still leave you with a feeling of satisfaction.

After a long wait, Rice is back -for the most part
on July 18, 2015

It took a long eight years to the day for Damien Rice to release his follow-up to the critically acclaimed 9. And while the album has its strong points, My Favourite Faded Fantasy is definitely a departure from the music Rice was putting out almost a decade ago.
Gone is the anger and frustration from previous cuts, replaced with a more melancholy and calmer tone. This shift in direction can also be found in his lyrics, which seem to contain almost no profanity as compared to 9.
Personally, I believe the departure of Lisa Hannigan provides the most obvious explanation for these changes. She was the perfect foil for Rice, a sparkle of light in the dark and twisted roads his music once paved. My Favourite Faded Fantasy plays like one long apology letter from Rice to Hannigan, a distant plea for forgiveness that he abruptly let her go, ending both their personal and professional relationship in what seems like an instant.
It's sad, sweet, and sympathetic. But if you're expecting the same roaring fury that can be found on 9, you'd better look elsewhere.

Not her best, but still okay

Not my favorite Sarah album. Seems she has fallen into repetitive patterns with the past few records, which is unfortunate given how emotionally driven and creative her first few were. Still worth a listen, but nothing I would run out and purchase again.

Stylus works well and fits both iPad cases I have had. I like the small size, which helps it fit easily in my hand. It always connects with the screen, I never have problems with the touchscreen not recognizing the stylus.
