Will a standard HDMI cable work or will you need a high speed HDMI cable? I tried a standard HDMI cable and it did not work with my TV (non 3D or 4K). I then bought a high speed cable for $18 an wallah! I originally thought the unit was DOA.

Standard HDMI cable will work, but I use a high speed HDMI cable as well.
