Best inexpensive point-and-shoot camera

Among point-and-shoot cameras, we have only had good luck (good performance and good reliability) with Canons, and this is the sweet spot in their line, the best cheap camera and the cheapest good camera.

Excellent way to mount a phone to a tripod
on June 5, 2017

It's very solid, well built and it works. It will just barely hold my very largest phone (5.7" screen in a thick shock-resistant case), but it DOES hold it securely with no problems. A 6.0" phone might not work unless it had very thin bezels -- bring your phone and and check it in the store. Any phone smaller than 5.7", you're probably good. The little ballhead on the mount gives you full range of motion for stills or video. It seems a little expensive for just a phone mount, but it's VERY solid and most of them are not.

Excellent mike for selfie videos
on June 5, 2017
Posted by: ForbiddenPlanet
Verified Purchase:Yes
This inexpensive mic has excellent sound quality, works well with cameras and most phones, is dead simple to use, it's unobtrusive and has a very long cord. It's a good choice for selfie videos where it's just you and the camera on a tripod and you're not going to be moving around much. Tip: Be careful where you wear this kind of mic, it can sound a little muffled if there are too many layers of clothes (lapels, scarves, etc.) between it and your lips. The closer to your mouth or throat the better. The long black cord is very helpful, but don't forget you're wearing it and trip over the cord or walk away and pull your camera over. Also it takes a battery (not included) and remember to turn it off or it'll go dead pretty quickly. You can spend more on a lavalier/lapel mic but this one does a great job.

Good lightweight tripod for travel, light cameras
on June 3, 2017

Verified Purchase:Yes
Very inexpensive for a big-name Manfrotto tripod, very pretty, very well made, and well designed (with a couple of caveats). Yes, I read all the BestBuy reviews, most are glowing, and it was on sale, so the price was right. It's an excellent tripod for travel and for use with a lightish camera, up to maybe a medium DSLR with a medium telephoto. The pistol grip with friction wheel ballhead works very well, it's fast and holds tight. Caveats: This is a VERY lightweight tripod, so the legs are thin and whippy. The 60-inch max height sounds tall, but in practice it's barely adequate for most purposes. It uses an unusual non-standard quick-release design, a small button that fits in a well on the platform and a cam locks it in place. Pro: The button is small enough to simply leave on your camera, and it's fast in use. Con: Small enough to lose easily, and you only get one, so you'd have to order a replacement from Manfrotto (or a camera store). BestBuy doesn't carry them separately. Also, this tripod makes a great light stand, but many things you might want to use on it (lights, microphones, flash frames, umbrellas, etc.) won't work well with that tiny quick-release button. So: 4 stars out of 5, but remember it's LIGHT, repeat LIGHT, and don't lose that button.
