Most of my footage is soccer games. Like a soccer referee you can't be too close nor not too far. You have to anticipate the game and pan slowly and smoothly otherwise you will get unclear videos. My advice is to zoom out far enough that you can see the team play and movement, and not the individual player. On a big screen you can always see the skills on a certain player if you want to. If you are recording a soccer player for recruitment then the future coach wants to see if they are a team player and made good decisions with the options they had.
