Massive party speaker
on April 18, 2024
Posted by: AgentOJ
The Sony Ult Tower 10 isn’t your typical battery Bluetooth speaker you take out for a get together. This speaker is MASSIVE! It is over 3 feet tall, weighs in at over 60 pounds, which is why it has wheels. As is customary for the party speaker category, the Tower 10 has lights that sync to the music, includes a wireless microphone, and has omnidirectional (360). The one drawback is it does NOT have a rechargeable battery and must be plugged in at all times.
However, the speaker is extremely loud and is best suited for a large outdoor or indoor areas. The amount of sound that comes out of the tower is my best guess as to why there was no battery option provided. In any case, I did not find the lack of battery to be a limiter since I paired the Ult Tower to my smart projector and enjoyed a family movie night along with karaoke.
Once we were done with the projector we played background music on the Ult Tower and I did not have any issues with the sound quality. The sound is on the bass heavy side but this is normal for a party speaker.

Great spartan combo unit
on April 9, 2024
Posted by: AgentOJ
I have a variety of Roomba products including self emptying vacuums and the dedicated wet or dry mop braava jet m6. I will say the Combo Essential does not open as well as the braava jet m6, but it is still a winner.
Self emptying vacuums are great until the self emptying noise which sounds like an airplane taking off causes your baby to wake up and cry or interrupts your work from home calls. I say this because self emptying is cool but it does have some drawbacks, mostly the noise. Now the Roomba combo essential is not self emptying and is a spartan approach at an all in one solution.
The combo unit detects areas where it would fall and adjusts accordingly while systematically cleaning the area. The combo unit knows if you want it to mop when you have placed the mopping mount on the underside of the robot. In order to mop effectively you need to remove the dustbin area of the mop, look for the blue tab that has a water droplet on it, open and fill the bin with water. Once done attach the mopping unit onto the underside of the robot and your ready to vacuum and mop. In the app you can choose if you want low, average, or an ultra amount of water moistening the mopping pad. You also can select the suction level. From there you can start the combo unit from the app or physical on the robot.
The cleaning level of this combo unit is effective for areas with hard floors that tend to get dirty fast. For us that is the dining room, kitchen, and guest bath area. The combo unit effectively vacuums and mops good enough for daily cleaning but not good enough to make someone feel like the house has gotten a deep cleaning. Dirt is consistently pushed and missed by the spinning corner brush on this unit but the space and time savings are worth it.
With every all in one solution there is a drawback, in this case that weakness comes when you have rooms with a mixture of carpet you don’t want mopped and hard floors you want mopped. If you have an area rug that you want vacuumed surrounded by hard floor you want vacuumed or mopped, you will need to go into the map and set up different zones when you decide to mop. You can easily remove the mop pad and have the Roomba vacuum only and then put on the mop pad, but I am lazy and most likely won’t be doing that. That’s why this combo unit is great for hard floor areas such as dining room, kitchen, and the living room (if there is no carpet or area rug). If I am contemplating getting a combo robot and I don’t want to break the bank I would seriously consider this unit. If you want a self emptying variant, that will cost at least 4X more.

Tablet mode needed to overlook drawbacks
on April 9, 2024
Posted by: AgentOJ
The Dell XPS 14 with Intel Arc graphics is very sleek and portable with a few draw backs. Fir4st of the laptop chassis is all metal. Open it up and you will find touch controls (volume up, down, brightness, prt sc, delete, home end) at the top of the keyboard. My one issue I have is I use the delete button more than backspace, so having this on the top row of touch buttons vs mechanical buttons will take some getting used to. However, I understand I am in the minority here and the delete button is probably not as commonly used as I think.
Using the laptop is nice, the keyboard is responsive and he trackpad is blended well into the chassis and it is massive. What I mean by blended is you don’t know where it starts or stops because the entire area below the keyboard feels like it could be the trackpad. The placement of the trackpad is directly below the space bar with a width slightly wider than the space bar, and it ends about a 1/2 inch from the bottom of the chassis. You can see why not having a designated box/enclosure for the trackpad isn’t much of an issue since it is large and placed appropriately. Another issue for me is that the keyboard keys don’t have the most space in between and as a result I have been more prone to typing errors since I am used to keyboard with more space between the keys.
There are three USB C ports, a microsd slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, I am not the biggest fan of only having USB C ports on the laptop and I am a fan of having an ethernet port for when I need to trouble shoot my router or modem. Dell includes a USB C dongle that will convert one of the USB ports into a traditional USB port or an HDMI cable port, but omitted including an ethernet port on the dongle. I am also no the biggest fan of using a dongle since I will probably lose it eventually or not have4 it when I need it most, but Dell should have thrown in an ethernet port on the dongle.
This is a great laptop that is light weight, has an OLED touch screen (perfect for watching videos due to the true black reproduction), and will handle any productivity/work tasks you throw at it since you’re utilizing an Ultra core 7 processor with 32GB of ram. The biggest thing that I believe would knock this out of the park and make up for the USB C ports only is if the laptop could fold over and be used in a tablet mode. There are too many drawbacks without a tablet mode feature where you can leverage the portability and touchscreen to the point where the limitations can be overlooked.

Perfect for outdoor runners
on February 26, 2024
Posted by: AgentOJ
I run outdoors a lot and I like to be aware of my surroundings because there are a lot of bikers and cars passing by and you never know what might happen. I learned my lesson when I had a close call with a car that lost control and I couldn't hear the honking with my noise cancelling ear buds (that would always wiggle out of my ear canal eventually). My left ear has a weird ear canal where most earbuds will rattle out eventually, which left me to utilize the ear hook style headphones when running. The only issue with the ear hook style is that they still shift more than I would like. The ear clip design of the Ultra Opens are a very new design that solves my specific problem. I can hear my surroundings and they don't wiggle around. In addition the sound quality is much better than my ear hook style earbuds. Now, I am not saying the Ultra open earbuds will be a bass head's first choice because without a proper seal you will not be getting any significant bass. For those that want to be aware of their surroundings and want earbuds designed for runners and bikers that want to be aware of their surroundings, then these are the earbuds you've been looking for. The one feature I wish these earbuds had is wireless charging. I think Bose really missed an opportunity by not having wireless charging.

Good at disconnecting form WiFi
on December 14, 2023
Posted by: AgentOJ
First and foremost I will say the sole purpose for getting a baby monitor is to easily monitor your baby. It is a no brainer, but sometimes the technology promised gets in the way of the base product. Vtech is a well known brand and I recall Vtech being the first brand of cordless telephone in my parent’s house when I was a kid. It makes sense for Vtech to be in the baby monitor business, and they offer the following features on this dual camera system:
• Wide-angle viewing up to 135 degrees
• Local or remote two-way talk
• Soothing sounds and lullabies
• Temperature sensor
• Automatic infrared night vision
• Volume control
• Free live remote monitoring
• 360 pan and tilt cameras
• Nightlight
Now, this system works well to have multiple angles on one baby or to have one camera system for two different kids. The included 7 inch color monitor screen will flip between the two cameras so you can monitor both cameras. In theory, this product is a homerun but in reality there are serious connectivity issues. When trying to monitor the cameras using the vetch app I would frequently be unable to connect or receive severely delayed video feed. I could live with this but the fact that the included 7” monitor also experiences significant video feed delays and sometimes can' display much of anything is a deal breaker. Add the issues of the cameras intermittently disconnecting from my mesh WIFI network and you can call this monitor completely useless. I thought this system would be perfect for me since I was going to be able to live monitor my baby with the included monitor and remote monitor when I needed to while at work. The lack of a live monitor at home is what puts me off from other WIFI baby monitor systems because I do not want to have to use my phone at home to simply look to se if everything is ok with my baby.
The connectivity issues are to great for this to be useful to anyone as a baby monitoring system, unless they do not have the same connectivity issues I experienced. I don't know if Vtech could have solved this by including included a localized radio solution in addition to WIFI for when WIFI is not working correctly.

With two 10 GbE ports and Wi-Fi 7 technology, eero max 7 can provide more than twice the speed of Wi-Fi 6. This isn't a minor upgrade, this is a whole new level of fast.

Easy upgrade from eero 6 to 7
on December 10, 2023
Posted by: AgentOJ
My house has connectivity issues with a standard router which is why I had to use a mesh network system and chose the eero Pro 6e as my gateway as well as an additional node for a two story 1400 sq ft home. The best part about the Eero 7 is that it is backwards compatible which is ideal for my current home router system. The master bathroom is the main issue due to the amount of material the signal has to go through, therefore this is the first area I tested after replacing the gateway node with the Eero 7 and leaving the additional eero pro 6e node in place. I reset my system and tested my signal in the master bathroom and noticed I was no longer getting a weak signal. For my specific set up it was nice to be able to upgrade the gateway and slowly upgrade the other node if I needed to versus having to swap out the entire mesh network again. I also like the fact that the eero 7 has an upright design and it has more than two ethernet ports since I was using an unmanaged ethernet switch to plug in various mart home hubs into the router.
Now when the new wifi standard comes out on electronic devices, my home network will be somewhat future proofed….for the time being.

Too hot to handle
on December 8, 2023
Posted by: AgentOJ
I have heard great things about Ember products, and my path is different than most where my Ember path started with the Ember baby bottle system vs the coffee/hot beverage products that most users are familiar with. The Ember baby bottle system is a winner, however the Ember Tumbler fails as a Tumbler.
I’ll start with the good and slowly descend into why the Tumbler fails. First and foremost the aesthetic design is pleasing, and the charging system is simple and straight forward. Download the Ember app if you want to be able to adjust the temperature settings or don’t download the app and have the Tumbler default to warming any liquid to 135 Fahrenheit/57.2 Celsius. If you decided to download the app you can change the status light on the Tumbler to any color you desire. Plug in the charging puck into the outlet and think of it as a charging coaster that can maintain the temperature of your hot beverage indefinitely. You get two lids to those from, a leak proof lid that acts as a handle (you have to take the lid completely off in order to take a sip) and a spill proof sliding lid (easiest to use for quick sips).
There is nothing more to the Tumbler other than to pour in your hot beverage of choice. The liquid will cool down or heat up according to your heat preference or default to 135F/57.2C if no preference was selected. The Tumbler automatically starts working and will automatically shutoff if there is not liquid detected. All of these features are very nice and what is expected from a smart tumbler.
Ember states you get 3 hours of battery life from the integrated battery but I was only able to get 2.5 hours at most using the default temperature and in an indoor environment. One minor issue I found is it is hit or miss on whether or not this tumbler will fit in your car’s cupholder. In my truck the Tumbler fits, but in my wife’s car it does not.
Now for the biggest issue, I brewed black tea at the recommended temperature of approximately 212F/100C in the Tumbler as anyone has done in a basic mug or tumbler and found the Tumbler too hot to hold. I expect this from a ceramic mug which is why there is a handle, but I do not expect this from ANY stainless steel tumbler. A Tumbler should be able to provide proper insulation so that I can hold it without it being uncomfortable at high brewing temperatures. I tested my $5 no name brand tumbler and I had no issues with holding it while brewing at 212F/100C.
For this reason the Ember Tumbler completely fails. There needs to be more insulation in order to retain the heat. I understand that too much insulation could prevent the ember from adjusting the temp up and down as easily, but there is no excuse for the Tumbler to be too hot to hold. I asked five people on separate occasions to pass me the Tumbler once I had let the 212F/100C water sit in it for about a minute. I did not tell them about the issue I was having, I simply wanted to see if I was being too sensitive to this issue. All five picked up the Tumbler, walked across the room and asked my why the Tumbler was so hot.
As much as I like the tech in this, I could never recommend this to anyone since it cant function as a basic Tumbler.

The Storm Shell Deluxe Weatherproof 44" Outdoor TV enclosure provides year-round protection and allows you to use any standard flat screen TV outdoors, eliminating the need to purchase an expensive “weatherproof” TV. The extendable, full-motion articulating TV mount is included and swivels 180 degrees for unobstructed viewing. Storm Shell enclosures are both impact and UV resistant. The front cover is easily removed and the integrated locking latches help keep your TV safe and secure while you are away. The integrated power strip helps you keep your power cords nice and tidy. A good alternative to an outdoor TV
on November 27, 2023
Posted by: AgentOJ
This is a budget alternative to buying an outdoor tv, and with that the, StormShield case really “sticks out;” it’s really noticeable and a bit of an eyesore, unfortunately. Mounting the TV wasn’t terribly simple and the assembly and installation directions were not the most clear. I had to watch a video on YouTube to help me through the process.

The mount and arm feel sturdy. It comes out 22”, which is convenient for connecting all wires and bringing my 43” TV closer. This did create an issue with my short wires not having enough slack, so something to be aware of. The arm is fully rotating, but the tilt capabilities leave a little to be desired (something like 5 degrees). I was hoping it might be able to tilt downward more to help with visibility, since the case does nothing to deal with glare.

But boy does it work. I assembled and covered before installing my TV, then blasted with my hose. Not a bit of moisture inside. I suppose it could also help keep dirt and critters out too. It remains to be seen how useful this will prove, considering that I live in California, but solved an issue that I was concerned about. Looks like StormShield also offers a case for soundbars, which I could see being useful, but not sure how that would work from a water-proofing standpoint if a wire is needed to connect between the TV and the soundbar. I guess we’ll see how the TV case works out first.

The mixing bowl rusted but GE fixed it
on November 11, 2023
Posted by: AgentOJ
I recently acquired the GE Profile 7 Quart Bowl - Smart Stand Mixer with Auto Sense, and it has quickly become a staple in my kitchen. This appliance has exceeded my expectations in several key areas, making it a remarkable addition to my culinary toolkit.
First and foremost, the build quality is impressive. The mixer feels sturdy and well-constructed, which instills confidence in its longevity. It can handle even the most demanding mixing tasks without wobbling or feeling flimsy.
Performance-wise, the GE mixer is a powerhouse. Its motor is robust and provides consistent, reliable power. From whipping cream to kneading bread dough, this mixer tackles a wide range of tasks with ease. I particularly appreciate the various speed settings, which allow for precise control over the mixing process, ensuring that ingredients are perfectly incorporated.
What sets this mixer apart is its versatility. It comes with a selection of attachments that make it suitable for various kitchen applications. The included mixing bowl is a decent size, and the splash guard prevents messy accidents. The attachment swapping is straightforward, and the appliance itself is easy to clean. Also GE knows who the biggest competitor is in this space, therefore kitchenaid attachments are compatible with this mixer.
The noise level is relatively low for a mixer of this caliber, which is a pleasant surprise. You won't have to endure an earsplitting racket while using it, making for a more pleasant cooking experience.
One minor drawback is that it's slightly bulkier than some other mixers on the market, so it may require a bit more storage space. However, the overall performance more than compensates for this small inconvenience.
On MAJOR drawback is that the stainless steel bowl rusted along the rim of the bowl even though the user manual stated the bowl is dishwasher safe. GE immediately sent out a replacement bowl which also rusted along the rim of the bowl after being placed in the dishwasher. Most importantly, and as a result of my testing, GE reached out and said they got in Touch with their stainless steel bowl supplier and will be changing the polishing process to make sure the bowls do not rust. I was sent a third bowl which has a higher polish finish along the rim and it has not rusted after three bouts in the dishwasher. GE is standing behind their product which is good to see! If you are having the rusting issue, reach out and they will get it squared away.
In summary, the GE mixer has proven to be a reliable and versatile kitchen companion. Its impressive build, powerful motor, and range of attachments make it a fantastic addition to any home kitchen. If you're looking for a mixer that can handle a variety of tasks with ease and precision, this is a solid choice.

Tech and fashion fusion

The Ray-Ban Wayfarer Meta Smart Glasses are a seamless blend of style and technology, almost indistinguishable from the classic Ray-Ban Wayfarer in terms of their sleek and stylish design. Surprisingly, despite housing advanced tech features, they maintain the slim profile and comfortable fit of the original Wayfarer.
These glasses offer a plethora of technological capabilities, with a notable mention going to the integrated camera. The picture and video quality are impressive, providing sharp and clear imagery. When recording videos, you have the flexibility to choose between 15-second, 30-second, and 1-minute clips, ensuring versatility in capturing your moments. Moreover, the livestreaming option allows you to continuously stream until your battery runs dry. Capturing photos and videos is a breeze, thanks to the intuitive button on the right side of the glasses or voice commands. However, it's worth noting that there is a slight delay when taking photos.
One common concern with smart glasses is privacy, but Ray-Ban has addressed this by incorporating an LED indicator that flashes when recording or taking photos. Although the LED is quite bright, it might go unnoticed by most people in public settings.
One pleasant surprise with these glasses is the audio quality. Despite the speakers being positioned above your ears rather than inside, akin to traditional headphones, the audio remains crystal clear. You can conveniently adjust the volume by swiping up and down along the right side of the glasses.
Considering that the standard Ray-Ban polarized Wayfarer sunglasses are priced at $220, the Meta Wayfarer Smart Glasses are a surprisingly reasonable upgrade, with only an additional $80, totaling $300. This makes them an attractive option for those looking to combine fashion and tech seamlessly.
