Awesome data plan for $20/month!

Verified Purchase:Yes
The Mobley device itself isn't the big deal. The big deal about the Mobley is the currently available AT&T $20/month UNLIMITED data plan. So get a Mobley, activate it, and for $20/month everyone in the car can get online with laptops, tablets, phones, etc. (max 5 simultaneous WiFi connections). We used our Mobley recently on a long roadtrip. It streamed video for multiple devices without any trouble so long as there was an AT&T network signal.

This AT&T Velocity Wi-Fi hotspot allows you to simultaneously connect up to 10 devices to the Internet at 4G LTE speeds. The intuitive touch screen makes navigation and changing settings simple.

Is this device compatible with a fire stick?

Yes in that it acts as a standard WiFi access point. Any WiFi device can connect to it, but there is a limit of 5 simultaneous WiFi connections at the same time.

If you buy it out right... can u pay it as prepaid?

Not at this time. Even though I bought it outright the only data plan available is the AT&T postpaid plan.

Would I be able to upgrade my Verizon wireless for the hot spots on the go? Can it be used on a desktop also..

This device is AT&T only. It uses AT&T frequencies, not Verizon frequencies. The good news is you can have it as your only AT&T device on an AT&T account. So even though you have you cell phone service with Verizon you can have an AT&T account with just this $20 data plan for this Mobley.

The inserted SIM card in the device is the same with the one used in the cell phone? Or it is a special-made SIM card?

Its a standard micro SIM but when AT&T activates it they put it on a data device plan. Swapping the SIM out into a phone or vice-versa probably won't work because of the service activated on the SIM even though the SIM will fit.

My At&T Uverse Plan includes free WiFi hotspot networking, how would this device work with my existing plan?

Chances are you misunderstand what they're offering. What they're saying is you can use your account login info from your home internet service to sign in to paid AT&T-hosted networks around the nation when you're out and about.

That said, if you have a cell phone on the newer unlimited plans, you may be able to add a "normal" battery powered hotspot which will have better performance for the same $20/month if you add it onto your existing cell service. That might be a better option for those who have unlimited cell phone plans with AT&T.
For the rest of us this is a fantastic bargain data plan. Unlimited data for $20/month, and it can be on a stand-alone account. The ONLY services I have with AT&T is my two Mobley devices.

can you do online gaming with xbox live with it?

Possibly. A lot will depend on the local towers you would be connected to. While the Mobley uses LTE it only uses one channel at a time, and depending on your region's towers those channels/towers could be slow if congested. Newer stand-alone WiFi hotspot devices are able to use two different channels at the same time to greatly improve throughput and help if one channel is busy. Newer devices also are likely to have more channel frequencies they can use. That said, no other WiFi hotspot can be set up for $20 unlimited data/month. We used our Mobley on a recent road trip with multiple kids streaming while going down the highway. Video can buffer for when you'd transition towers and video doesn't care much if you have a bad ping speed. So while your XBox would likely connect well, latency would potentially make multi-player gaming difficult.

I travel in Canada occasionally, will it work there, and are there any additional charges?

It will NOT work. These use a US-only data plan.

This Mobley device uses a very specific Connected Car Unlimited Data Plan for $20/month unlimited data (subject to de-prioritization after 22GB in a month). What that means is AT&T is counting on these to just use data on their own towers. They can't and do NOT allow these to roam to other towers because then they'd have to pay that tower owner/provider for the data used.
