Poor install instructions, performance
on January 5, 2021
Posted by: bc3tech
from Seattle, WA
The installation of this Filtrete is lacking User Acceptance Testing.
1) If you drill a 3/16" pilot hole, the SCREWS DON'T FIT. The hole is as big as the threads, meaning they get *no* grip. And off you go to drill more holes. Additionally, they don't hold in drywall *at all* - the back wall under my sink is drywall and it ripped right out; I had to drill into the side cabinetry instead.
2) If you take the filter off without first shutting off water supply *and draining cold water from faucet* you get baptized. Sprays everywhere. With a new filter, this means that black stuff also sprays everywhere.
3) Says after proper install there will be no gap between filter and mount - no matter how hard I tried I had about a 1/8" gap; and it doesn't leak.
4) Collet release is near impossible without 3 hands and a tool to grip it. I had to use my mouth to pull on the blue tubing while I pushed down on the collet with an adjustable wrench with both hands.
As far as performance, we currently use a filter system that provides us with a Total Dissolvable Solids (TDS) meter. This meter reads 000 after going through our current filter system. Hot water out of the faucet - bypasses the Filtrete - reads 31 TDS which is fairly good (some areas of the country see >300). Yet cold water - which goes through the Filtrete now - is still 31. I don't know what this Filtrete is doing, but it's not removing anything from the water.
It may be true that this removes chlorine smells/tastes, but it must be doing so by adding other things to the water which gets rid of these; as it's not a net loss of particles.

Good performance, bad convenience
on December 17, 2020
Posted by: bc3tech

While the vacuum itself performs admirably on both hardwood & carpet for a battery-powered unit, it lacks the convenience of typical uprights in that there is literally *no* on-board storage of attachments. Need to switch to the brush for your couch? Go run and grab it. Need the low-profile attachment for something? Go run and grab it. Not even a storage *bag* for them is provided.
The unit *must* be folded over in order to stand by itself, which puts the battery charging port literally on the floor. Have fun plugging & unplugging that. The other option is to remove the battery each time and plug it in anywhere you wish.
It's very lightweight; you can remove the entire floor unit and easily carry the vacuum in one hand. Though it can be a bit awkward as you're holding the entire canister and battery in your hand instead of just a handle & wand like a typical floor vacuum.
We're still not sold on whether/not this will replace our Shark DuoClean for heavy-duty tasks (like vacuuming the entire house) but for quick usage here and there it's got better performance than your typical lightweight "stick vacuum" (we've got one of those as well) which we appreciate.

Bristles are large for kids' teeth; app needs work
on November 9, 2020
Posted by: bc3tech
from Seattle, WA
I'm not entirely sure the rubber bristles are good for anybody's teeth, honestly (disclaimer: I'm nowhere near the dental profession) as they're very large so I don't believe they adequately clean *in between* the teeth, especially for children.
The app itself was impossible to setup on my wife's iPhone 11, but I successfully got it sync'd to my Android after some troubleshooting. I was quite surprised, however, to find there were "brushings" logged on the brush from *months* before we received it. Not sure if this means it had powered on in transit, was powered on & tested (without being reset) at the factory, or what. But it felt weird.
When you "sync" the toothbrush w/ the app after a brushing, it updates the data but then often pops an "unable to sync" message... despite just updating the data w/ the latest stuff (so clearly it sync'd just fine). It tracks things like duration, coverage (top/bottom), strokes, and "intensity". Upon digging into the meaning of "strokes" and "intensity" - they seem duplicative. Additionally all this data is still in "beta", but it has helped me direct my 6yo to split his time between top & bottom parts of his mouth, which is good!
We haven't yet earned enough points to redeem for a reward to see how that process goes, but things like a tote bag, "refresh bag", floss, credits toward refills, and even a $5 Target gift card are available today.

Convenient and FAST
on November 3, 2020
Posted by: bc3tech

I Love! that this thing doesn't have a preheat cycle on it! You just put the food in, set your time/temp, and walk away.
The presets have fit my family pretty well, my boys love just taking a personal pizza, throwing it in, and hitting the pizza button. Makes things super quick & easy all-around.
In other aspects it's alot like other air fryers I've tried in the past but the preset buttons really give it a convenience that I've not had before. To add to the convenience, being able to put things in the dishwasher when done is also a welcome feature of the build.
The touchscreen makes it an easy clean - just unplug and wipe down the control panel and you're done.

Good cam bundle
on November 3, 2020
Posted by: bc3tech
from Seattle, WA
For what it is, this bundle is a good unit. I installed it on a 2018 Chevy Traverse and here is my review:
* The front camera's cord is *just* long enough for an invisible install on this vehicle; check the route you plan to run the cord before buying or you might be disappointed.
* It's nice that the front camera's DC plug gives you a USB outlet so you're not losing convenience by adding this camera to your ride.
* The rear camera's cord had ~2ft leftover after running through the headliner from the front camera to the rear window of the vehicle. This is considered a full-size (3-row) SUV so I feel it's a pretty good length.
* A screen this size could benefit from being touch-enabled. Having to push buttons on the bottom of the screen causes the video to jostle which could be problematic.
* Both front & rear cameras allow adjustment *only* vertically after install. If you miss the left/right alignment when you stick it on, you're SOL. Could've benefitted from an orbital mount on both.
* I've yet to get the app to fully connect to the unit on my Android phone which is unfortunate since it adds quite a bit of functionality.
* The camera adds on lane-departure & front-collision warnings which may be very convenient for older vehicles/those without. Note that the unit has to be "calibrated" first and gave no walkthrough on how to do this. We'll have to wait and see how it works by just turning it on.
* Despite setting the date & timezone, the unit couldn't figure out it was no longer DST and I had to manually flip the switch; this will prove to be annoying in the spring & fall.
* The app annoyingly has a spot after configuration for "Camera 2" that you can't delete.
All in all so far I'm happy with it. I'm anxious to see the iRadar alerts, lane departure, and front collision warnings.

Versatile & fast
on September 24, 2020
Posted by: bc3tech
from Seattle, WA
This unit is quite versatile in the things it can do, for sure!
So far I've replaced my standalone toaster and air fryer with it and it works great for both of those purposes. Every now and again I'll use it to reheat food but it hasn't impressed me that much; takes *significantly* (like 20x) longer than a microwave from what I've seen. Quality is better, yes of course, but the time is a bit much for us (family of 5).
The unit heats up *extremely* quickly which was a welcome change from using a standard oven for things like personal pizzas/garlic breads!
There is, however, one important thing we didn't think about when we considered it to replace our toaster though: safety. With a standalone toaster our kids, down to even our 6yo, could make their toast themselves in the morning. But with this one the front glass gets extremely hot, the grates you put the bread on are of course very hot, the top of the unit is hot, and the surrounding inside is hot. All this is to say that where I used to just make some toast and slap it on a plate, I now have to have oven mitts on just for toast now, and our kids are no longer allowed to make their own. That said, it's nice to be able to make as many as 6 slices at once!
The air fryer actually worked more quickly than my standalone Chefman which was a welcome surprise!
Just some things to consider for this unit.

Great Simple Slow Cooker

This is a great appliance for what it is: a simple, portable slow cooker. Works great! It has limited programming capabilities (high or low, and with preset durations and no ability to customize timing). Lid lock works great and would be awesome for taking to potlucks or game days!

Great working monitor, as expected!
on September 18, 2020

Dell again makes a great monitor. This one compliments my Surface Book perfectly with its aesthetic and its performance is what you'd expect from Dell. Full 4K, great connectivity. My SB2 can push it via a USB-C -> HDMI adapter without issue at full 60Hz refresh.
I can't speak for the gaming side, but there are options in the menu to go to "extreme" refresh rate which I can only assume would be a gamer's dream :)
I spend most of my day looking at text on the screen and it's razor sharp and I've had no issues with connectivity coming out of sleep, etc.
Great monitor!

It's 2020 - why is this thing not rechargeable? Major oversight IMO.
Outside that, the attachments are all very effective and adequate for the job you're using it for ;)
I'd only ever used a rotary trimmer in the past but the flat ones this unit offers are far more effective!

Great phone with a few quirks
By 1tsatrap from Morehead City, NC
I bought this phone for personal use after having an Android phone for the past two years. When I came over I knew that I would have to re-purchase a lot of apps and that I was going to lose a lot of Google integration. Here are the main points I found coming over from Android to this phone:
Speed:
This thing is fast compared to the Android phone I had before and a lot of other much newer Android phones I have played with. The UI for Windows Phone 8 is smooth and responsive with no delay. Also, this thing gets 3 out of 5 bars of LTE service where my HTC Thunderbolt was only getting 1 bar out of 5 before.
Software:
App selection in the Windows App Store is pretty good. I was surprised to see the majority of the apps I used on Android available in one form or another on the Windows phone. Unfortunately what was missing was the stuff I used the most. This phone has no voice guided navigation unless you like using VZ Navigator for $2 a month. The Nokia phones use something called Nokia HERE but there is no such app for this HTC phone. The only option is a directions list that comes up on 3/4 of the screen under a tiny map. I travel a lot so this is a deal breaker for me that I didn't realize until I had used the phone for a few days. Otherwise I just miss my Google applications (drive, voice, currents, etc.) which is something to consider for anyone thinking about switching.
Look and feel:
Fantastic. This thing is built to be solid. At the bottom edge there's a slight gap between the polycarbonate and the screen where you can see light but it might just be a defect on the phone I have. My only complaint here is that the Micro USB charging slot is on the bottom of the phone which is where I usually put the weight of the phone on my pinky. If you're prone to holding and using this phone with one hand then make sure it's comfortable for you! My pinky is starting to rub raw where the polycarbonate stops and the charging port begins. This also makes it hard to charge the phone in the car right-side-up without using some kind of cradle.
Overall (TLDR):
Great phone with mobile OS growing pains. If it had a free navigation app that actually did turn-by-turn real time navigation then it would make a great daily driver. Know what you're getting and make sure to hold this phone before you commit to it! Also, if you have more than 14GB of music/photos and you actually want to use this phone for media then look at a different phone. 16GB of internal memory with no expandable storage and the OS takes 2GB.

Enjoy big-screen entertainment with this Epson 3LCD portable projector. All-digital HDMI connectivity lets you stream from a variety of devices, and 3,300 lumens of equal color and white brightness let you use it in almost any lighting condition. This Epson 3LCD projector lets you view images up to 25 times larger than those on a 60-inch TV.

Can you plug your android cell phone into it and play movies from your cell phone to the projector?

If you're going in to any of the provided video ports (HDMI, VGA, etc) then yes. Not just via USB though; that's out/charging only.

Does it hurt to have the RF-WHTIB wireless rear speaker system plugged into its own power supply and "on" all the time?

Certainly not, mine was plugged in to a separate outlet and always on for a number of years and I never had issues with it.

Powered sub output?

Is there an output for my powered sub?
If your powered sub accepts speaker-wire inputs, then yes this could work for that. But it does only have two channels. so you're not going to get your L and R rears, PLUS the sub output if that's what you're wondering.

all the inputs and outputs of the system are speaker wire only, though - no RCA (which some powered subs only take)

Can this be used with a side speaker and a rear speaker instead to two rear speakers?

Sorry for such a dumb question, but I had to ask since the back of the unit shows L/R for Left and Right. I do not have a problem with wiring left side of the room, but right side involves crossing two doors. Can I install the unit such that it services one right side speaker and one right rear speaker?
I see no reason why not. It simply transmits the signal for two channels; whatever those may be. as long as it can hit the "receiving" part of the unit, just plug the L and R lines accordingly and you should be able to get just what you're looking for.

Does the Rocketfish Wireless Rear Speaker Kit work with an RCA RT2906 home theater system?

I'm not sure on this particular home theatre system, but I can explain why they call it universal and perhaps that'll help you.

Basically if you have speaker wire coming out of your receiver, then you just plug that speaker wire in to the "sender" of the unit, and then put the "receiver" of the unit wherever your rear speakers are going to sit and plugs those in w/ their speaker wire.

The one downside is that the receiving unit has to be plugged in via A/C (wall plug) and is not battery powered; somewhat of a pain and faux pas on their part in the design. I'd have liked to see it powered by C/D batteries so that it could be completely disconnected.

on Blu-Ray titles video specs

why do some have 1080P while others have AVC @ 26 MBPS
AVC would seem to suggest that they were not originally filmed at HD resolutions. AVCHD is a format you can use to encode videos not HD quality on to a blu-ray disc to play on HD players. I have not seen such a movie - can you specify the title of what you're seeing AVC & 26MBPS on?

Where to find 3D movies and how do you tell they are 3D?

I have a 60" dlp set with the 3D glasses from Nvidia, it's fun for games but I would like to try watching a movie in 3D, but I am not sure where I could by the special DVDs/blurays for it, since they have to have a special format for the player to display them in 3D
If these are the "old" red/blue glasses, then no. If these are powered, Active Scan glasses, then there's a good chance you'll be able to use them w/ the new equipment. I do not yet know of any movies out in 3D, but the players do exist as I'm sure you already know. Early indications say that you will have to have glasses that match your 3d SET in order for it to work (panasonic glasses -> panasonic TV, etc). Your DLP set is likely not the new 3d standard that has been developed, so I don't think you can expect to see 3d content from the players/movies that are coming out on it.
