Initially we selected the full size model, coming form a 25 cubic foot side by side we thought we needed something more massive to effectively hold the amount of food we need for our family of 4. It was very difficult to accept that we couldn't get the full size model though our doors, but once we were able to move past the sheer size difference between the two we were able to see this model for what it is. I have to tell you, the design of this refrigerator is pure genius. The storage capacity of this refrigerator, when compared to our technically larger side by side unit is amazing. It easily accommodates far more food. My wife doubted it's capacity, even after the initial delivery, because of how much more shallow this unit is in comparison to our old side by side and the cavernous space within the 29.7 cubic foot model. The features of this unit allow you to save space from the main refrigerator compartment. The door in door system can accommodate two gallons of milk on the lowest shelf, and an additional 2 gallons on the middle shelf. The top shelf is much shorter, and is only sufficient for condiments and dressings. Moving milk and juices out of the main cabin into the door saves an incredible amount of space. The most obvious feature, the instaview window, is something I appreciate far more than I initially thought. I immediately threw it off as being more of a gimmick than a real feature. Upon delivery I watched my son tap on the glass to decide what he wanted to drink rather than spend 2 minutes with the door open scanning between the milk and juice. The door in door allows him to access drinks and condiments quickly. I've noticed that he uses the refrigerator far more often for these types of items than the for the contents in the main cabin, so it's the door in door system that he accesses most. His second most accessed area is the custom chill drawer. His favorite snacks are in this area, yogurt cups and deli meet are all laid out here, along with his individual sized flavored milks. My daughter accesses this area of the fridge most, which leaves me with both children not opening the main cabin much at all. The secondary benefit is a main cabin that is left organized and as cold as possible as it is often left untouched. The other huge space saving feature is the location of the ice maker, it's in the left door. We've only had the fridge for a few days, and albeit the ice maker is smaller than our previous fridge, but to this point it appears to be able to keep up with the demand of our day to day use. In the event you have guests I would suggest using the setting that increases the ice production, and as a last resort you could always buy bagged ice for those events. The water dispenser has it's own nozzle located over the ice dispenser on the door. It has very serviceable flow and was able to fill a gallon container quickly. Last, but certainly not least, is the freezer, The primary reason why we choose a french door unit was to increase the capacity of the freezer. The width of a side by side freezer was a constant problem, but I can tell you that this freezer is definite upgrade in terms of usable capacity and organization. The three shelves allow for thoughtful organization of frozen foods and treats. Not only will this freezer hold more than our side by side, it will allow for much easier access to food items, which greatly reduces the likelihood of lost food from awkward jenga patterns from our side by side. This is an attractive, effective, well designed fridge that has met every expectation. The only knock I can give it is to say that is shallow, but please do not allow the that to fool you. The superior design and lay out of this unit will easily overcome depth as it will maximize your ability to not only store but also organize your food.
