The years of Colin Baker are underappreciated for two reasons, both made in his first episode. His awful clothing and trying to kill his companion Peri. Both were not thought out. Those who miss out on Colin Baker's era miss out on his passion. This particular episode is him at his best. There is definitely some gold here. The characters are vivid and some of the quirkiest in Whodome. There is some lead like the handling of Peri at the end of the second story, Mindwarp.
This collection of some of the very first Doctor Who adventures from 1963 and 1964 star William Hartnell as the Doctor, as he and his companions as they visit prehistoric times, witness the terror of Daleks, and more.
Unearthly Child is forgotten but it started the dynasty. Truthfully its pretty hard to write a story with Neanderthals because of their limited speech and ease in which they can be fooled. The Daleks was the episode that solidified the whole series despite misgivings of the show's creator. The Edge of Destruction was a poor premise, poorly acted out and poorly put together.
I would consider Mawdryn Undead and Enlightenment to be the best episodes Peter Davison did outside of Caves of Androzani. The features on each video are very entertaining.
Its easy to see why William Hartnell's portrayal as the original Doctor led to a series that was still being shown 50 years later. This show features what used to be a staple in Doctor Who, the historical episode. In the early days it was envisioned to be not only entertaining but educational as well. The popularity of the enemies like the Daleks pushed this type episode aside. The last truly historical episode was Black Orchid back in 1982. What made this disc special was the extras in my opinion. Hearing the unique stories about the difficulty in filming give you a real idea of the personalities behind the scenes.
When The Doctor (Patrick Troughton) and his companions come under attack in deep space, they flee and land the TARDIS in the bowels of the London Underground, and right into the middle of a ferocious battle with the Great Intelligence and the Yeti. Meanwhile, it's soon revealed that the Yeti not only seek to stake their claims on planet Earth, but on the Doctor's mind as well. Though video for episode three of this story arc is still missing, here it has been re-constructed here with photographs and the original audio track.
Patrick Troughton is arguably the best Doctor, the one others pattern the role after. Imagine how hard it must have been to be the first to go through regeneration and make the audience believe that while its a new actor, that this person is still the Doctor. It had never been done before. The whole series could have failed had Troughton not pulled it off. Web of Fear presents the best features of the second Doctor. He's witty, friendly, is able to lull the enemy in by acting the buffoon and capture them with his genius. The Yeti is a classic enemy who was brought back briefly for the 20th anniversary special, The Five Doctors. The episode also featured the Great Intelligence which has been brought back in some recent Matt Smith episodes.

What's great about it: Classic Troughton and the intro of the Bridadier
