Watched this movie when originally released. Bought it for my collection at a great price. Always enjoyed Robin Williams acting. Sally Fields one of my favorites also.

Got this movie because it was inspired by true events and the price was right. Was disappointed because apparently it was supposed to include a digital copy and it did not.
The Girl Next Door stars Emile Hirsch (The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys) as a high-school guy who finds his world turned upside down when he discovers the beautiful new girl living next door is an adult-film star. Before long, he and his friends are in the middle of a coming-of-age experience like no other. One of two DVD releases for the film, this disc includes the original R-rated version of the film shown in theaters, but is packed with racy unrated bonuses. Both widescreen and full-screen transfers are available on the disc along with a Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. English or Spanish subtitles and Spanish- and French-dubbed audio tracks are also included. Along with the film itself, there is a feature-length audio commentary track by director Luke Greenfield, a behind-the-scenes featurette, and a trivia track. The unrated features include a gaggle of deleted and extended scenes, a blooper reel, two more featurettes, and a sexy image gallery. An R-rated version of the disc was released simultaneously without the unrated supplemental material.

"The #1 Thriller of All Time" comes to DVD as part of Hollywood Pictures' Collector's Edition series. Fans of M. Night Shyamalan's ingenious supernatural story will revel in the 1.85:1 widescreen (enhanced for 16 x 9 televisions) format and 5.1 Surround Sound which fully capture the intricate details of the film and tangible paranormal presence. What makes this DVD especially enjoyable, however, is the multitude of behind-the-scenes features, many of which are narrated by Shyamalan and other key crew members. Included are a French-language track; a "Storyboard to Film Comparison" of the anniversary dinner scene; cast and crew interviews; a fascinating "Music and Sound Design" presentation that illustrates how the incredibly creepy background track was created; and "Reaching the Audience," an explanation of how word of mouth made this movie the cultural phenomenon it became. Also included are "Rules and Clues," a guide to the hints threaded throughout the movie before its explosive, surprise ending; four deleted scenes, one of which is an extended finale; and an interview with Shyamalan in which he talks about his background and how it affected his filmmaking. Theatrical and TV trailers as well as cast and crew biographies round things out. Finally, viewers should click on the beribboned box for a real treat -- Shyamalan's first horror film, "Nightmare on Old Gulf," which was written, produced, directed, and starred in by the film phenom when he was 11 years old.

Both a rich character study of a defeated middle-aged alcoholic and an engrossing "little guy against the system" courtroom drama, the budget-priced DVD release of this Paul Newman vehicle shows that The Verdict merits repeated viewings. A major hit in its day and nominated for five Academy awards, this is the kind of mainstream American movie that rarely gets made in Hollywood anymore. The disc returns the movie to its original theatrical aspect ratio with a pristine widescreen anamorphic transfer that shows off Andrzej Bartkowiak's starkly beautiful cinematography. The Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono track is crisp, well-balanced, and does justice to Johnny Mandel's subtle score. The finest of the DVD extras is top director Sidney Lumet's audio commentary track. This highly rewarding master class in filmmaking also features Newman, but he basically turns up for what can be described as an audio cameo appearance and offers a few comments towards the end of the movie. While Newman is always a welcome presence, this really is basically Lumet's show. Unlike so many directors, Lumet uses the opportunity go into the decision-making process of his movie with great depth, rather than just give off-the-cuff praise to actors or amusing anecdotes. The disc also comes with a featurette on the movie itself, but it doesn't come anywhere near being as in-depth or interesting as Lumet's commentary track.
