Soliloquy's Reviews

The happy citizens of Yoshi's Island were shocked to discover a mysterious island floating above them. What's even stranger is that kids began vanishing from the island school. Yoshi must round up Baby Mario, Baby Peach, Baby Donkey Kong and Baby Wario to get the kids back and investigate the mysterious floating island.Whenever Yoshi carries one of the children on his back, he can use unique powers, such as super speed or strength. They do battle with classic enemies, as well as new ones. The game makes use of the DS dual screens to show you even more of the lush landscapes on Yoshi's Island, adding to the entertaining gameplay.

Excellent blast from the past

This is exactly what you'd expect: a chance to enjoy your childhood time spent on Yoshi's island all over again. If you loved it the first time, you'll love it now. I never got a chance to play the full game the first go around, so a lot here was "new" to me. The gameplay, graphics, and sound are all classic. And that means your platforming and D-pad skills had better be up to snuff! Just as hard as all the old Mario games were, just as frustrating, and just as fun. If you can't get enough of your classic Nintendo platformers, this one is a solid choice, with decent longevity and a good amount of family friendly challenge.

What's great about it: Great fun if you loved the original
What's not so great: Not much to offer beyond the original, a little tough
I would recommend this to a friend!

She whipped up culinary creations in your living room from your Wii. She frosted cakes and fried eggs on your iPhone. She even splattered batter and sprinkled flour across your Facebook wall. But now, for the first time, Cooking Mama is bursting out of the screen and into life in eye-popping 3D. Enter an immersive, customized kitchen like you've never seen before — where you can almost feel the heat of the oven and smell the onions in the frying pan. But don't get sidetracked by your senses — this time, Mama's cranking up the temperature with new challenges, more complex recipes and more opportunities to win the culinary gold. But if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.Pull your stylus out of the pantry and arm yourself for more chopping, slicing, rolling and tossing than ever before as you step up to the plate and tackle more than 200 mini games and 60 recipes in Kitchen Magic. As you sift and stir your way through designer cupcakes, gourmet popsicles, cherry pies and more, your 3D gyroscope helps you turn ingredients into pure culinary magic, helping you crack eggs, flip meals in a pan, grate cheese and more. Combine two different recipes together to create your very own taste inventions — that may get raving reviews — or tossed in the trash. As recipes become more and more complicated and grow larger and larger, be careful not to crack under the pressure of a ticking clock, hungry friends and a very picky Mama — with medals to win and accessories to unlock, you can't afford to start blowing steam. Think you've got what it takes to out-fry and out-bake your friends and family? Throw down the oven mitt and challenge your rivals to an all-out cook-off, and claim your status as the top Mama in the kitchen.

Fun little game, but not much to build toward

I loved this little game... for about three hours. The cooking was fun, with lots to figure out with the stylus, but it got old very quickly. Once you see cooking tasks begin to repeat, it's pretty much over. While you can replay each recipe to try to get a gold score, that doesn't really earn you anything but bragging rights. And given how easy the general gameplay is, that's not worth much! If there had been more to customize about Mama's outfit and kitchen, I would have been interested longer. Still, the graphics and audio are absolutely charming, and I could see this being a great game for kiddos and anyone who really loves using the stylus to play various little minigames.
