Despite the lineup changes from the original band, this is another iteration of hard rock songs delivered as only Kiss can do. The band is back in top form doing what they do best, and appealing to fans who may not have known their work from the 70's. They give the fans what they want...
Kiss may have slumped commercially during this period, but it's still a good listen for the Kiss fan. It follows the proven recipe of solid (and maybe predictable) hard rock tunes with a rock ballad thrown in.
Rod sings some mellow ballads for us and listening to them takes us back there. He finds his greatest commercial success beginning with this album and cements his place as a solo artist. Quite possibly his strongest album for song writing, whether penned by Rod or other writers.
Of course I give five stars for the greatest hits of such a prolific music icon. I heard and enjoyed some of these songs before I knew who David Bowie was. Anyone who came of age in the 70's will relish this collection. True fans will want a more in depth sampling of his works. But if you're reading this review, you probably don't have his entire library, so this album is exactly what you're looking for.
Rod takes us along for his journey through the disco era. But there is so much more to this album. Some great songs that stand the test of time. And he pays homage to his Motown influences with a fantastic re-make.
The more recent U2 albums sound like "world pop". Their War album was an anthem full of anger, and it was so powerful. Wide Awake allows the group to put some feeling into the two live tracks. Their rendition of "Love Comes Tumbling" is a great rendition. Four songs is a small group to review, but these are worthy bits of early U2 gems.
This album is Yes trying to hold on to their progressive rock roots. Some of the songs live up to the standard that Yes has set with their previous works, but others are a bit shallow. Perhaps the break for solo albums drained the creative juices... But still a must have for Yes fans.
The Eagles are one of the most talented bands of all time. This (relatively) early set of live music showcases their vocal and instrument talent. Sure, some production went into the tracks on the album, but they deliver a remarkable live performance. Fans have a few choices of albums to get the feel of the Eagles in concert. If you prefer their earlier songs, this is the live album for you.
