Not a true best of the best, but a great snapshot of the Rainbow career. A little bit from each different singer Ritchie had in the band. Personally I'd of had way more Dio songs, but a great listen to the entire spectrum of Rainbow.
After all these years Deep Purple is still putting out high quality songs. There's not a filler song on the album. Ian Price is still a fantastic drummer and Roger Glover helps Ian hold down the bottom end of this rocking band, just as good as in the 70's. Ian Gillian can hit those high note screams anymore, but his voice is still golden. Steve Morse has been a most excellent replacement for Ritchie Blackmore, as the band sound shows the fun the guys are having with Steve in the band, definitely not the uptightedness Ritchie brought. Don Airey has been a fantastic replacement for the late great Jon Lord, sometimes sounding exactly like him. There are no huge hits here but every song song is really good.
This is an album of cover songs, Ace has picked some great songs, some obvious and some surprises. Ace shows that he is a better guitar player than I ever thought. The biggest surprise for me is special guest, Paul Stanley, appears on one song. Volume 1 is so good, can't wait for Volume 2 to be released.
Santana IV is the original Santana band back together after 45 years. If you are a fan of those first 3 Santana albums, then this album is for you. Are there any hits on here, No, but man can these guys jam together. This album has great jamming and musicianship. Even after a 45 year break its like they have never missed a beat. Well done guys, well done.
