Alphaville rocks on this latest album

Can't say enough good things about this new album from German synth-pop band Alphaville. This album has a much more "rock" feel to it than the previous album "Catching Rays On Giant". Although I fell in love with Alphaville's synth sound with their debut album "Forever Young" from 1984, I'm generally a more rock oriented listener, so this album really appeals to me. Specific songs that really rock are "Rendezvoyeur", "Marionettes with Halos", "Nevermore", and "Sexyland". We are also treated to not one but two epic ballads with this album - "Beyond the Laughing Sky" which closes the album, and my favorite song of the entire album "A Handful of Darkness" - I can listen to it over and over. I was fortunate enough to see Alphaville perform songs from this album during their first US tour since 1999 - I had to go to New York City to do it, but it was worth every penny to see them live. Marion still has the pipes to perform live, and he is surrounded by a fantastic group of young musicians.

I needed a smaller TV with a good, sharp picture that was relatively inexpensive. So far, it has performed well to show sporting events during parties. It was not intended to be much more than that. The "smart" aspect of it is nice in order to show music or other videos from various apps, but it's used more to show games. I do not leave it outside, even though the deck is covered, just because of the temperature changes of our seasons.

Fourth album from Danish/American band Pyramaze

This is the second album with the same lineup featuring vocalist Terje Harøy. Although I didn't find all the songs as interesting as the previous album, Disciples of the Sun, it still has an appeal to me by retaining Terje on vocals, and I love the talent, attitude, and dedication that keyboardist Jonah Weingarten brings to the band. The musical interludes that occur throughout the album gives it a progressive feel. My favorite songs are A World Divided, Heir Apparent, Under Restraint, and the fantastic duet "The Tides That Won't Change".

Replacing an old Pioneer receiver

My mom's old Pioneer receiver's optical input, which supplied the sound from a newer digital television, stopped working. It was over 10 years old, long past any warranty, and long before 4K. I decided it was time to find something new for her to use. I liked that this receiver has easy-push, easy-programmable buttons on the front of the unit labeled for BD, TV, CD, Radio - the main things my mom would use. Setup was easy, programming the button for her particular TV setup was super easy, and she loves the picture and sound that she has now. She can finally enjoy a clearer HD television signal than she had with her old receiver, and she finds it so much easier to switch from one component to another (from TV to BluRay to CD, etc.) with the buttons or with the remote.

I was looking for a high quality HDMI cable that wasn't very long at all. I thought I'd be stuck with a 4' cable but was very pleased to see Rocketfish has a 1.5' cable. Needed for a new receiver installation

The Geek Squad set up the new TV and receiver. Because of the number of inputs vs. the number of items to hook up, they needed to use an optical cable. I didn't have one, but fortunately they brought some along just in case. I was worried that in a situation like that, the price of a cable would be higher. Had it for about 2 months to go along with a Samsung 4K television. No problems with it. When I turn it on, it takes a few seconds to recognize there is a disc in the player or that there is an external source connected. Not a complaint, just an observation. The best thing I discovered was that I can plug an external hard drive into the USB port on the front and access pictures, music, and video from it. Unfortunately, it doesn't recognize the lower quality .mov files from my older Sony Cybershot camera. The video from the newer Sony Cybershot looks fantastic. It's very cool to be able to display vacation pictures and videos on the tv - reminds me of the old days of vacation slides but without the hot bulb and windy drone of the slide projector! The reason I gave it 4 stars is because I wish that it would display videos and pictures within the same folder at one time - you have to pick which media you want to display at the beginning before navigating through the folders. If you want to change the media being displayed, you have to navigate back to the device that is plugged in. Also, the way the folders are displayed is different for videos vs. pictures vs. music. One format displays full folder names, the other truncates the folder names in the list. I also wish it displayed a visualization-type screen when playing music so as to decrease the chance of burn-in (thinking of the OLED tvs).

Makes basic TV operation very simple

The Geek Squad set up the remote with my system - very convenient and glad I didn't have to bother with it. I like that if something doesn't turn on or off correctly, pressing the Help button will go through a few questions to solve the problem. I wish it really did "everything" that the TV can do, but for most actions that would take 3-4 different remote controls, it is outstanding - watching tv, watching a movie, listening to music, playing a video game, accessing the Smart Hub apps - it does all of those perfectly, and that's 95% of what I do with the system.
