I have several lights that turn on from the same switch. BUT I only want one Smart light in a precise location. Does the light switch need to be "ON" for the light to operate? Can I have all other lights turned off and use only the HUE?
If I'm reading this correctly, the switch will need to be on. If your other lights are lamps, just switch them off by the switch that's on them. Then you can control your hue. Or, put a hue in each light and you can control them all. Also, I recommend you get the mobile app called IFTTT. It's has applets inside that can do pretty cool things with hue and a number of other things. Good luck.
