Now that my kids are getting old enough to watch movies, it is important to me to have the great Disney films in our home library. Often this means purchasing used copies but unfortunately when they go out of print for so long, they can be quite expensive. Thankfully, though, Beauty and the Beast has come back into print for a 25th anniversary edition and we are looking forward to watching it as a family.

Good movie, light on bonus content

I thought this movie was good, but not quite as great as some reviews suggested. Still better than 90% of recent movies, but I personally liked Kill the Messenger and Whiplash better. The commentary with the Gilroy bros. was worth the cost of the disc for me! I just wish there were more docs and featurettes to go along with it.

Like most cinephiles, I love Martin Scorsese, but his recent films have been hit or miss. I thought Hugo was wonderful and a tremendous use of 3D. Alas, I do not have a 3D TV and don't anticipate ever owning one, so the regular Blu-ray seems like an ideal way to revisit a recent favorite. I only wish Scorsese had recorded an audio commentary like he used to do all the time, but has stopped on the recent movies.

I already have this on DVD but had not previously upgraded the Blu-ray because reviews were weak on the picture quality. Too bad the studio has not yet fully remastered this like some other catalog titles from the same era. That I would buy on day one! Instead, I ultimately could not pass up the $4.99 sale, as at that price the marginal upgrade in picture quality from DVD is worth it. But I still look forward to a full remaster someday.

I bought this without having seen the movie before because I thought odds were good I would really like it, and although I did like it, I didn't love it like I was hoping I would. But then again, I have a feeling it will grow on me and I will come to appreciate it more next time around when I know there won't be much of a story to develop and I can just appreciate the meandering quality of Llewyn Davis.

I ahve to admit that I did not care for this movie when I first saw it. In fact, I think I probably ended up turning it off. But I kept coming back to it inspite of the fact that I don't usually care for sci-fi, and now I can really appreciate the movie and all its ideas. The criterion package of supplemental features is outstanding. This is the version to get for anyone who is a fan.

Great footage but slim extras

Born to Be Wild was a great experience in the theater and wanted to own it at home to revisit these animals anytime. You can never have enough of a good thing, though, and I dearly wish this documentary was twice as long. It also would have been nice if there was a better package of behind the scenes featurettes and outtakes.

I don't generally care for sci-fi/fantasy movies unless there good characters and real emotional resonance to our place in time and this movie is that. I probably would not have bought the blu-ray, though, if not for the package of extras headlined by the director's commentary. Hope to see more from George Nolfi soon!
