Good Headphones with a Great Microphone
on August 30, 2020
Posted by: TravisJ
from La Grange, KY
Great sounding, light weight, and comfortable. I’ve worn these for 4 to 5 hours at a time and barely notice any ear/head fatigue when I take them off. The sound is absolutely amazing, and the Blue voice technology microphone picks up my voice without any of the background noise and sounds fantastic using the built in presets for noise isolation and compression.
Pros:
- Minimalistic lightweight design with a touch of RGB. Very clean.
- Audio sounds very good at this price point. The Blue Voice technology really makes a difference compared to my old headset. The DTS surround sound is immersive and crisp.
- Long battery life at 29 hours and uses USB-C standard to charge.
- Lots of customization with Logitech GHub software with sound and audio.
- Easy setup with user friendly UI in the GHub app.
- Good range at 20 meters (about 65ft.)
Cons:
- Another light speed dongle to add to the collection.
- Detachable mice boom instead of being able to rotate out of the way.
- RGB only has 2 zones per strip.
- No foam cover included for mic.
Out of the box setup was quick and easy. Connected the lightspeed wireless dongle, which for some reason was a bit larger than the ones they make for the mice or keyboards. After launching GHub and it detecting the device, it was ready to go. There are presets for both the headphones and microphone which was good enough for me. I always go bass boost for music and FPS shooter for gaming. I’m currently using broadcaster 2 preset for the Blue Voice microphone, which gives you options for compression, noise reduction, etc.
Using these have been fantastic. I love to listen to music on these when I’m browsing the internet, or doing things around the house. I don’t drop connection like I do with my Bluetooth headsets. Gaming with the DTS 2.0 surround really puts you in the game. The design is so lightweight and comfortable you forget about them shortly after putting them on. I like how they went with the elastic strap instead of the static cushion that most other headphones have, which give you the ability to adjust it to one of the two settings. It has easy to reach mute, power, and volume buttons on the left earpiece. I’m not excited about the design choice for the headband bridge. I wish the headphones didn’t wing out going down to the earpieces as much as they do. I also don’t know how I feel about the decision of the LED lighting. The LED is almost too subtle. I wish there were something a bit more creative than a single strip along the front. This is easy to ignore if you’re not concerned with RGB as you can just turn it off all together.
Final thoughts:
At mid-range price point, you’re getting a good pair of headphones that are light weight and easy to wear for hours. The sound is good, and the microphone is better than most. If you’re looking for a sweet RGB setup, you may want to skip these. But if you just want to change the accent from time to time, they’re ok for that. I’m not a huge fan of how the top band flares out just before the earpiece. It looks like I have a little hat on and I can’t unsee it.

Praise for the Small Formfactor and Crisp Sounds
on August 3, 2020
Posted by: TravisJ

Checking all the boxes for portable personal speakers. Durable, water resistant design. Ultra-portable without sacrificing clean crisp sound. Still sounds good at max volume.
Pros:
- Small portable form factor. No problem throwing this in a bag, carrying around in your hand. Sit it on the pool ledge, garage bench, shelf in the living room. Music anywhere you go.
- Powerful sound in a small box. I really enjoyed how clean the sound was with no distortion, even at louder volumes.
- Durable design. The outside is a tough rubberized housing with the iconic Marshall mesh grill on the front. It has an IPX7 rating meaning a splash or a dip in the water isn’t likely to create any issues.
- Ease of use. Pairing was easy using the small dedicated button. Powering on and powering off is done by holding the button in the middle which also serves as volume, pause/play, and track navigation.
- USB – C. Thank you for helping the world adapt to this superior connector.
- 5 Hours of playtime with 20 minutes of charging.
- Powering on and off plays a little guitar riff sound which I thought was a nice touch.
Cons:
- None to speak of. You’re getting what’s advertised.
Other Thoughts:
- I would have liked to have seen an auxiliary outlet, or at least the capability through the USB C port to connect to my computer or other devices. Not a deal killer, just a personal preference.

Beautiful Slim Design, Portable and Comfortable
on June 24, 2020
Posted by: TravisJ
from La Grange, KY
Pros
- Size: Removing the number pad on the side makes this keyboard much easier and comfortable to use. If you wanted to use it in your lap, you can, or leave plenty of room to the right for mouse movement when gaming, you can do that too. I’ve been keeping it in my lap when browsing the web and consuming media. I can lean the chair back a bit and just be comfortable.
- Typing: Typing on this keyboard is very comfortable. The body itself is low profile. If you type like I do, I usually rest my palms on my desk. I’ve been typing from my lap since I’ve gotten this and notice the strain is not as bad on my wrists as I can wrest my arms on my arm rests and hold my hands above the keys. The GL Tactile switches are very responsive. If you don’t like the loud clicky sound you get from mechanical switches, the tactile switches are a bit more muffled.
- Customization: If you like having custom keys, macros, or RGB, you got it. I used the G-Hub app on windows and tinkered with the RGB. I have a alternating rainbow scheme for my ram and water block. I just grabbed the preset rainbow, tweaked the speed, and that worked for me. I did see where you can adjust keys individually. I didn’t dig any deeper than static colors on single key customization.
Still on the topic of customization, the custom M1-M3 keys use the function keys to run macros. I almost always have a macro for my email, discord, and steam and whatever game I’m playing at the time, just a quick way to get started.
- Gaming: No issues here. Gaming mode (also customizable) will disable keys you don’t want to accidently press. I didn’t think having the extra room for the mouse would make a difference but giving myself a wider range to work with lets me turn down the DPI some for more precise tracking. I even angle the keyboard a bit just so some keys are more ergonomic to hit. I’m not playing competitive or traying to snag a leaderboard, but it doesn’t seem like there’s any noticeable lag that would affect that level of gameplay.
- Rapid Fire: The brushed aluminum is very nice and I really enjoy this look. The RGB is very bright and you get 4 different brightness levels, not including off. The volume wheel has a very smooth attenuation. The essential media control keys are there, including a dedicated mute button. Battery life seems to be very good. After a full charge I had over 100 hours of use time. You have two different height settings on the fold out feet. Storage space for the USB dongle on the bottom of the keyboard (surprising for the very slim profile). Finally, the box includes a nice braided cable, usb adapter for the light speed dongle, and a quick start guide.
Cons
- Wish it would have included USB Type C charge port instead of micro b.
- I would have liked to use my power play mouse pad to connect the keyboard as well (free up usb port), instead of the included dongle.
Final Thoughts
Having the wireless mouse and keyboard makes for a very clean looking desk. I’m really happy with the G915 and look forward to the years of gaming ahead with it.

Wine Stays Fresh for a Small Price
on June 1, 2020
Posted by: TravisJ
from La Grange, KY
As soon as you open the box you’re greeted with a QR code. I recommend you scan this with your phone and watch the “how-to” video which walked me through getting started. Inside the box you have the Coravin, Coravin screw top, and 3 air cartridge used to help keep wine fresh.
The way this appears to work is by using a needle to pierce through the cork, minimizing the exposure of the wine. The air cartridge pumps a non-reactive gas into the bottle to force the wine out of the spout. When you’re done pouring, you remove the needle from the cork and the air exposure is minimized.
From start to finish, pouring is a breeze. Load the cartridge, pull down the bottom part of the device, place it over the top of the bottle (cork still in), and push down all the way in a smooth motion. Tilt the bottle and pump the trigger to push air into the bottle. The pressurized bottle pushes out the wine. When done pouring, tilt the bottle back up and you’re all good.
The Coravin doesn’t have to stay on top of the bottle either. Simply pull straight up and the pourer releases from the cork and you’re free to move onto the next bottle.
As for keeping the wine fresh? Seems to work out ok. I haven’t noticed any change in flavor or scent. I’m not a wine enthusiast but I can appreciate a fresh bottle staying fresh longer. Seems to work ok in this aspect. I opened a bottle and made sure it lasted a few weeks before pouring again. I didn’t really notice any discernible difference in taste or smell.
The only downside of this product is the cost of the canisters. My wife and I typically drink a local wines that aren’t “cheap” but don’t hurt the wallet. When you must also pay for argon canisters that pressurize the bottle without affecting the flavor, you add to the cost of the glass of wine. This is probably a necessary evil to preserve the wine, but it’s still something to consider if your wine doesn’t last you but a few weekends anyways.
To sum it all up, this product is for you if you enjoy an occasional glass of wine and your willing to pay the few extra dollars to make sure none of it goes to waste. On the other hand, if your having a glass or two with dinner every night, this product probably wont make a huge difference in your day to day.

2 Removable Batteries, Innovative
on March 8, 2020
Posted by: TravisJ
from La Grange, KY
I’ve been using this vacuum almost daily since I’ve gotten it. The ease of use, ability to quickly swap out batteries, and pump action dumping of the vacuumed contents makes this the easiest, most powerful stick vacuum I’ve used.
Pros
- Two removable batteries included with the vacuum as well as two charging cables. Many units include an internal rechargeable battery which have to be sent in to the manufacturer to be replaced. The two included removable batteries offer a lot of power, and between the two, will help you use this for larger homes. The battery meter displayed on the back of the vacuum where you can easily read it.
- Ease of use is definitely a plus. All the attachments easily clip on and off, including the powered floor brush. Emptying the canister is actually kind of fun as it launches the dirt into the trash bin.
- Actual vacuuming is satisfying with the Dyson. It picked up way more dirt than my previous vacuum did as well as pet hair and dander. Because it is so easy to use, I find myself using it more often. The power output automatically shifts when going from hardwood to carpet. The battery meter will also change with the power level, going down when boosting on carpet or up when on hardwood floors, and is displayed as time remaining to vacuum.
- Dyson included all the accessories that other manufacturers make you buy separate. This comes with a wall mount kit, extra battery and charger (as mentioned above), powered pet brush, brush and wand as well as the floor brush. The pet brush does a great job on couches, cushions, and more. As a person with 4 cats, this is a must with any vacuum.
- Maneuverability is up there with the rest. Getting around and under things isn’t an issue as the brush is low profile, wide, but not bulky helping get to all the floor space without having to move too much.
- There is some sort of futuristic sound after you let go of the trigger to power it off. Just has a nice audible aesthetic to it.
Cons
- Gets a bit heavy if your using the wand to clean furniture or fans. I wouldn’t recommend using it one handed to try and tackle things where you’ll be supporting the full weight of the vacuum. Although, two handed, no issues.
- Having to hold the trigger the whole time your using it may be fatiguing for some. I know my wife prefers an on/off switch in leu of a trigger.
Summary
- I really enjoy using this vacuum. You can tell they thought of everything: the feel, the sound, the ease of use, the durability, the innovation. Dyson appears to be making their own path in the vacuum world. The cord is gone, the hassle of emptying the bin is gone, changing accessories is made effortless, charging is as simple as hanging it back up on the wall. Dyson is trying to take the hassle out of vacuuming and they’re very close to that goal.

RGB Fully Customizable Gaming Mouse
on January 23, 2020
Posted by: TravisJ
from La Grange, KY
Pros:
- Ergonomically I really enjoy the optional extended finger rest that goes on the right side of the mouse. With most mice, your ring finger kind of hugs the side of the mouse, with the optional extension, you can relax your hand. For me, this lets me have more of a reflex reaction when gaming compared to having direct the mouse.
- RGB. ICUE software syncs all the ICUE devices. I have my water cooler, case fans, ram, and now gaming mouse all synced on the same profiles. Options are endless and you can spend many hours or just a few minutes customizing your rig with amazing results.
- You can customize almost every button. Whether you want a macro, text, remap a key or button, or disable it if it’s not necessary to the game you’re playing. The software is intuitive and makes setting
- Wireless options. This mouse gives you the option between using the wireless usb dongle (which has a storage location in the mouse) and Bluetooth. This really allows you to use this mouse between multiple devices without having to plug and unplug a dongle, especially if you have a main rig but also do gaming on a mobile device like a gaming laptop.
- USB C charge port.
Cons:
- Scroll wheel needs a little bit more grip for me. I find myself pressing it in as a button when I only intend to scroll the wheel. This is the only real problem for me.
- The mouse is a bit on the heavy side and with the extension, and a bit larger than your average mouse. I like the heft because it gives me more precision, but others may find it a bit too heavy.
Final Thoughts
Corsair really put a lot of thought into customization from the RGB, to customizable buttons, to even how you connect the device. Definitely for anyone who likes options.

Easy to Use, High Quality Videos
on January 1, 2020
Posted by: TravisJ
from La Grange, KY
I’ve been using my smart phone for a while to take photos and pictures. Even doing some light video editing with the media. It has been a while since I’ve used a dedicated photo/video device and now I see why so many do, even in the amateur space. If your getting somewhat serious about your hobby, I recommend this camera as your pocket point and shoot or vlog camera.
First thing you’ll notice out of the box is the build quality and ergonomic design. This camera is easy to hold if your doing point and shoot photos. The grip is fantastic for taking pictures or recording video. Frequently used buttons are well within reach. The touch screen display looks fantastic. Over time, I’ve found myself using the touch controls more than the navigation wheel. Not to say the navigation wheel isn’t good with its grippy feel and intuitive info graphics. One of the great things about the screen is its ability to fold out for selfies or vlogging. You can use the touch screen to get your picture right before pressing the record button, all while having the camera pointed at the subject matter whether you’re on the front or back of the lens.
There are tons of features, many of which I’m still learning about. The advanced user guide you can download from cannons website is extremely useful. The menus are easy to navigate through and setting up the Wi-Fi is easy enough if you can follow the on-screen directions on the camera and your smart phone or computer, whichever you’re connecting it to. The one feature most will find useful is being able to navigate the photos/videos on your smart phone and pick and choose which ones to download. This is especially nice if you want to quickly upload on the go as your phone connects directly to the camera, so it doesn’t require a Wi-Fi network. I did connect this to my iPad as well so I could do some light editing before sharing, so there’s that option available. It works the same as connecting to a mobile device.
4k Video footage looks beautiful. I filmed a short 4k video of a family member blowing out birthday candles. I was pleased with the video quality, even though my lighting was poor, everything turned out very smooth. I was holding the camera by hand, and while the image stabilization helps, it doesn’t work miracles. I would recommend a handheld tripod or gimbal if you’ve not developed a steady hand for opportunist point and shoot moments.
I’m happy without the output options for picture and video formats. Being able to snap photos in the raw format and jpeg formats and exporting both opens the door for editing options should you choose to touch up the higher quality output photo. I downloaded Cannon’s Digital Photo Professional 4 for my pc and it allows for editing and converting of the .CR3 files. As for video, recording in 1080 is fine for most situations, but there are moments and footage I want to capture in 4k, especially b-roll footage if I’m working on a project. You can quickly switch modes using the touch screen without thumbing through the menus to make the change.
All in all, I’m very happy with the Mark III. I know some reviews complain about the auto-focus. There is a firmware update that will hopefully address this for most as it did for me. Hopefully there is some expandability for uploading to other services in a future update as well.

Perfect Vacuum if you Have Cats
on December 3, 2019
Posted by: TravisJ
from La Grange, KY
Assembly out of the box is straight forward and took just a few minutes to get it put together and powered on. The Vacuum comes with a brush/wand attachment and a motorized pet brush for sofas and chairs. It also has a floor brush that works good on carpet but really shines on hardwood floors.
The LED lights on the floor brush highlight how dirty your floors are but also how well the vacuum actually removes said dirt and dander from the floor. The motor, wand, and brush are easy enough to hold and use one handed. The power and mode buttons are readily within thumb reach and ramp up the power depending on the job at hand. Everything easily snaps together and just as easily apart for fast swapping of attachments for different cleaning surfaces.
The dust cup and filter pull apart so the cup can be emptied. The cup holds a lot for its size but it’s still a bit small, which is ok, because it keeps the size petite enough you don’t feel the fatigue of using it. Once emptied, the filter slides back into the dust cup. Snap the dust collection assembly back onto the vacuum and it’s back into action.
I have 4 cats, all indoor, two of which are long hair. We vacuum and vacuum often to help keep the dander down, especially since I’m every so slightly allergic to cats. That’s what makes this vacuum so great. I can grab it off the included wall mount, vacuum the sofas, chairs, swap out to the floor attachment and tidy up the living room and hallways. The battery on the lower settings is more than enough to hash out a quick run through the common areas. The only concern is when you hit carpet and need to use the higher setting to really pull the dander out of the fabric. I find that I don’t quite get the battery time I did when cleaning the hardwood floors and furniture.
All things considered, my allergies haven’t been as bad, my clothes pick up less hair and dander from the sofas. I find myself reaching for it more often because I don’t have to mess with the hassle of a cord. The only thing that concerns me is having an internal battery. When it comes time to replace an aging battery, will the cost offset just buying a new unit, and how often will they need to be replaced? Only time will tell, but that doesn’t take anything away yet of making this a fantastic vacuum if you have pets.

Stainless Steel Smart Watch That Does What You Wan
on December 3, 2019
Posted by: TravisJ
from La Grange, KY
The Fossil Gen 5 smart watch is a watch that serves whatever purpose you need from a smart watch. You can get notifications from emails to text messages. Receive phone calls. Track activity and heart rate. You can even tell time with it with it's always on display.
Right out of the box I knew I had to make an adjustment to the band. I had a small precision driver kit that I used to remove some links. All in all, I took out 5 links which wasn’t hard to do as long as you have something small enough to punch out the pins. After putting it back together the watch fits perfectly.
Setup was quick and with little effort. I, like many, already had a google account so that made things a bit easier and syncing to my iPhone through the WearOS app was painless. Just a few swipes and allowing access to contacts and apps on my phone, I was in. The software is mostly based on swiping and the use of the crown. I didn’t find myself really using the other two buttons that often, although they can be assigned to open apps you use frequently. The touch controls are pretty easy to use and get used to. The screen colors are bright and sharp enough to see in bright daylight.
Notifications work really well on this device. I noticed they were very timely and easy to see at a glance. A few lines of an email or text message gave me just enough information to decide whether I needed to pull my phone out a for a full-blown conversation, or if it needed to wait until a more appropriate setting to respond.
One of my favorite things about the watch is the power modes you can choose from. If your going out and you just want a stylish time piece, you can turn on the time only power mode where the watch will only show the time when you press the digital crown. The battery life on the time only mode is easily a couple days and I use more often on the weekends when I’m more social and just want a nice-looking watch when going out.
The few downsides to this device are battery life when using the full suite of features and Bluetooth interference when making phone calls. I noticed when using my headset in the car I get a lot of interference and static sound when I’m wearing the Fossil watch and it’s connected to my phone. When I place the watch in airplane mode, the interference goes away. This could be just my unique setup or headset that has this issue but may cause a problem for some. Also, the battery life is nearly all day when using all the features on the phone such as sound, notifications, heart rate monitor, always on display, etc. Switching to extended battery, time only, or custom settings is easy enough, and I do feel like it “Should” be low on battery by the end of the day, I do find myself throwing it on time only mode towards the end of the day just to keep it from going dead.
All in all, the Fossil Gen 5 is a very nice looking smart watch. If you like google assistant, tracking heart rate and work outs, getting notifications and phone calls, or just enjoy a nice looking wrist piece that tells time, this checks all the boxes and does it while looking like a luxury item and not an electronic. You may just need to keep the charger close by if you plan on wearing it all day and being out late.

Streamlined Setup. Current Gen WiFi
on November 9, 2019
Posted by: TravisJ
from La Grange, KY
Pros:
— Very impressive setup experience. The mobile app walks you through all the steps. From opening the box to connecting a daughter node around 20 minutes. I did spend some time moving around some plugs. More on that later.
— Clean look. While hefty, the router itself is very clean looking. All of the IO is in the back and the LED status light is on the top and very subtle. Over time I see this blending in with the rest of the furniture. It just looks like it belongs on a book shelf.
— Speed is very impressive, especially if you’re using a device that supports wireless AX (WiFi 6). Connection speed to network drives is the same as if it were connected to my laptop. Files transfer very quickly.
— QOS is easy to set up. Just pick your device from the list and drag it into one of the 3 priority slots.
— One broadcast name for simple setup. No need to set up multiple WiFi networks for different bands. Devices automatically connect to the best frequency.
— I plugged in my network drive into the usb slot and it instantly connected and I was able to quickly access my files.
— WPS setup was the fastest of any router I’ve owned. I used this to connect my printer and had to check to make sure it worked because it was so quick.
Cons:
— I wasn’t impressed with the size/shape of the power brick. It was difficult to find a spot to plug it into my power strip and I ended up having to unplug several devices and move it around to find a spot to plug it in.
— The bands you can turn on is limited. I’m only given the option for “mixed”. On the 5ghz band all my devices are wireless ac so mixed isn’t necessary but couldn’t figure out how to dedicate it to wireless ac.
— No landscape mode for ipad app.
Other Thoughts:
For the speed and power the router has, the size is compact. My wife loves the look compared to the dead spider look you get from other routers. It blends in with the décor beautifully and delivers next gen connectivity.

Store more than 50 PlayStation 4 game titles on this 2TB Seagate game drive. Its USB 3.0 port provides fast loading of full-size games so you can play smoothly, and its tough aluminum enclosure protects the drive from damage. This plug-and-play Seagate game drive is automatically recognized by any PS4, PS4 Slim or PS4 Pro console.

I've gotten quite tired of always uninstalling and reinstalling my games to make room and I was thinking about buying one of these. So, since all my games are hard copy, does that matter? For example, with this, will I be able to reinstall hard copy games

According to Sony’s website you can use from 250GB to 8TB in external storage to install games.

Listen to your playlist in peace with these Sony headphones. They have a 40mm dome driver to deliver the full depth of audio, and the noise cancelling feature minimizes outside disturbances for a better listening experience. These Sony headphones have a battery life of up to 30 hours for extended jam sessions.

Would you be able to use these headphones to workout at the gym? Is the clamping of the headphones to your ears tight enough so it doesn't slip out as i do certain lifts? Are replaceable ear pads available for this model that are more comfortable?

These will work fine at the gym. They come with 4 different sized wing tips and ear tips so that you can customize the fit to your ear. Since these are new, It's unlikely to have 3rd party ear tips or wings at the moment.
