I heard all the criticisms of the movie and the use of Scarlett J. in an iconic Asian anime movie... I bought it in 4K and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. It was better than I expected but had a nagging suspicion it would look better in 3D. Well, it was worth the double dip. Whoever did the 2D to 3D conversion did an excellent job and it looks great and adds to the experience. If I had to do it again, I'd just get the 3D version.
I'll be frank. I think all Michael Bay movies suck. But oh the spectacle. Some great action pieces and special effects. And one of the best 3D environments I've ever seen on TV.
I absolutely love this movie. While it received mediocre reviews from the critics, they were way too harsh and judgmental because of the baggage carried by it being a "Tom Cruise" flick. I felt it's a superior sci fi epic following the traditions of all the best dystopian sci-fi plots with a nice twist in the middle. It had great performances, effects and one of the best scores I've heard in years.
What sucks, really sucks is that the Ultra HD 4K is not a big improvement over the regular 1080p blu-ray. Did they not scan it at 4k? And, if so, why not? Anyways, buy it if you don't have the blu-ray, but you'll be double dipping in a couple years when they release the remaster.
I thought the 4k resolution of this movie was quite good. There was a great level of detail revealed in many of the facial closeups.
The only thing that was crushing was that this movie was quite a let down after the quality of the first 3 Bourne movies. I felt the same way after watching Godfather III. A good movie on it's own, but so disheartening if you loved and put the earlier movies on a pedastal.
The 3-D version was good....it made a lame movie more palatable, but I was slightly disappointed with the conversion. Maybe it suffered in comparison to Exodus which I watched the night before. I enjoyed the 3D experience in Exodus more than with this flick, but my review could be biased because it was a stronger movie than Gods and Kings.
It looks great, but is it a much better experience than the regular blu-ray? No, but an improvement and a missed opportunity. Just think what it could of been if it was transferred from a 4k source (like Deadpool--WOW) instead of being upscaled from a 2k intermediate. The colors in HDR are a nice improvement over the regular 1080p though.
It's not as good as the incredible 3-D experiences of the Andrew Garfield Amazing Spider-man 1 and 2 transfers, but they did a really good post-conversion job here.
Well worth watching the movie in a 3-d setting, and I prefer it over the 4K release
Only at Best BuyKeep data safe on this Western Digital hard drive. Its automatic backup software ensures your files are saved in case you forget. This Western Digital hard drive has an 8TB capacity to store your entire library.
I also have the Seagate 8tb external Backup Hub Plus, but its SMR technology is better for archiving and not for everyday use like the WD. I wish I had bought the 8TB WD the first time around as well.
Anyways, now all our family photos and videos are "safely" archived/duplicated on two separate externals kept at two different locations.
Regardless of what you choose, i recommend putting an active fan underneath the units to ensure air flow and reduce operating temperatures inside the cases.
