I had the Surface Pro 3 pen and instantly noticed the difference when I began writing with this pen. The SP3 pen felt a bit mechanical and unnatural. This pen though feels like a regular pen and my handwriting is much better represented with this pen compared to the SP3 one. I am not artistic but can imagine the difference this makes when drawing or painting.
Better than ever, the new Surface Pro gives you a best-in-class laptop, plus the versatility of a studio and tablet. The stunning PixelSense™ Display supports Pen* and touch, while the refined design provides up to 13.5 hours of video playback — 50% more battery life than Surface Pro 4. A powerful Intel® Core™ processor runs full desktop software with ease, ensuring a smooth, productive workflow.
I recently sold my Surface Pro 3 and decided to upgrade to the new model because I was attracted to the fanless design. I have had it for a couple of days now and have it hooked up to a 4k monitor and have to say that the experience has been excellent so far! Opening applications is quick and efficient and the fanless design definitely makes the unit a much quieter one - I still haven't heard much noise from the Pro and it definitely heats up less than the 3.
One criticism I have though, unrelated to the device itself, is the Surface Plus program. I originally ordered this device via the Surface Plus program but it took way too long to ship and Microsoft were unable to give an ETA. That was weird considering they have the device in stock. To add insult to injury they said I won't be able to cancel my order; I will have to return it once it ships. I ended up buying it from Best Buy and will return the other order (if it ever ships). I would therefore not recommend buying the device via the Surface Plus program, especially if you are on a deadline.
