The unit maintained a 40 percent level and did not run continuously. I used the hose attachment to drain the water into the garage floor drain.

Purchased this for a separate living area at our cabin. Once plugged in and operating for a few minutes it started dripping water. The container filled overnight and the auto shut off worked great. I then connected a hose using the adaptor and set the humidity setting to 40 percent and it held it at that level. The unit is very quiet.

Is it normal for a thick, long bar of solid ice to develop?
Had the unit for almost four months and recently a long, solid block of ice has been developing on the back. It doesn't cover the entire filter, but is about an inch tall and goes the length of the filter. This isn't normal is it?

what installation is required? doesn't it just plug in.?
Yes, it just plugs into a 110volt AC wall outlet.
To save time I suggest you use the hose adapter so you do not have to empty the water container. I set mine up using a step ladder with two boards between the ladder and the counter top, had a slight slope toward the sink and used the hose to drain the water out. Worked great
