Possibly the best racing game in the past 10 years

Playground games has taken their solid Horizon concept and transplanted it to the south of France and North of Italy, allowing players to take a Top Gear style road trip through some of the most scenic land on earth. More importantly than the setting, big changes have come about in the game's structure and feature set and have made this game stand heads and shoulders above its predecessor. No longer are players contrained to the tarmac, short cuts across dirt can be taken are there are races across mixed surfaces that inject some Midnight Club-esque insanity into what used to be a rather tame arcade racer. The 200+ cars that the game launches with are satisfying and a number of new additions like the Renault Alpine reflect the game's European setting. There are still plenty of Japanese Tuners, American muscle and German super Saloons and all of them are customizable. Honestly, Forza Horizon 2 is the Xbox's first killer app.

This blu ray presents Martin Scorsese's excellent documentary on The Band. These classic tunes have not lost their luster over the years and fans both young and old can appreciate this disc.

A Very Real and Profound

Concluding the story that began with Before Sunrise and was continued in Before Sunset, Richard Linklater's Before Midnight offers an uncharacteristically honest portrayal of a long running relationship. Ethan Hawke best summed up Linklater's trilogy by saying that Before Sunrise is a film about what might be, Before Sunset is a film about what could or should be, and Before Midnight as a film about what is. The storybook romance has long since passed between Celine (Deply) and Jesse (Hawke) leaving the trials and strains of day to day living to test the extraordinary romance built in the previous two films. Entirely dialog driven, Before Midnight's kicks off with Jesse bidding his son from his previous marriage farewell after staying the summer with him and Celine. A long bittersweet farewell kicks off a series of events that threatens to crush Jesse and Celine's marriage. The film brilliantly takes the innocent musings of Jesse and lets them slowly build into a very real and, at times, ugly conflict. Both characters are sympathetic in their own way, Jesse wants to ensure he is involved with his son and Celine wants to maintain the career that she has worked so hard to build. The film is entirely dialog driven so those who require action will find the musings of the characters tedious. Linklater's camera captures the beauty of Greece while his characters tick away like time bombs and this blu ray offers an impeccable image and sound. Extras are substantial in quality but quantity is limited. This is truly one of 2013's best and possibly most overlooked films.

What's great about it: Great conclusion to Linklater's romantic saga, Excellent chemistry between Hawke and Deply
What's not so great: Plot is entirely driven by dialog--not for those with short attention spans

An Excellent presentation of an 80's Classic

Capturing the nostalgia of adolescence, Stand By Me is based on a Novella by Stephen King that is entirely devoid of horror elements. It's presentation of this blu ray is immaculate, with vibrant colors that appear to have been unmanipulated and excellent clarity. It also marks some early big screen performances from the likes of Keifer Sutherland and River Phoenix. Excellent special features round out this complaint free release of a classic film.

Still has room to Improve...

The Fugitive is an engaging action thriller released in the early 90's that capitalized on the star power of Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones. While it isn't exactly the kind of film that will long be remembered as a bona fide classic from that time like Pulp Fiction or Forrest Gump, it's certainly engaging enough to have stood the test of time these past 20 or so years. This fast paced film with it's stunning set pieces (including a massive train wreck) seem like a great fit for high def, and they would be, if it weren't for an A/V presentation that doesn't exactly impress. The image is soft and at times grainy. The sound doesn't offer the same punch as other films from the time presented with lossless audio. That said it's still an upgrade from the DVD and can be had for a really low price.

Almost the Definitive Version...

While I would argue that almost any movie from any period of time benefits from high resolution, no one is going to argue that certain film genres excel with greater visual fidelity and auditory punch. War movies are certainly among those. Riddley Scott's Black Hawk Down is a fantastic contemporary war film that touches on an oft forgotten military engagement--The Battle of Mogadishu. Possibly the second best war film to be released in the past 15 years (I would say Letters from Iwo Jima is the best...) Black Hawk Down is a must see for action fans. If you already own the 3 disc DVD you may not want to get rid of it though, since not all of the special features make it onto this Blu Ray.

what is the best program for stop motion or animation?

Stop motion animation is the process of taking still shots of physical models or rigs and moving them slightly between photos to produce animations that are similar to a flip book. That said, is is less about software and more about having the materials to create props, scenery and heaps of patience because it's a slow process. Any editing software package should allow you to import still photos and string them together to create animations however.

If you are interested in computer generated animation than I would recommend trying Blender for 3d animation since it's free and quite powerful. If you are able to grasp Blender and want to move on to something more professional than I would suggest Autodesk Maya or Cinema 4d. Along with those programs Photoshop (creating and editing textures. GIMP can also be used and is entirely free), Adobe After Effects (useful for post production effects) and some sort of editing software will be necessary to make complete films. For 2d animation I would recommend trying to learn Adobe Flash.
