I'm very disappointed about both of the 2 reasons I chose Blaze over the similar model Polar fitness band (which has continual heart rate monitoring and is completely waterproof for swimming while Blaze is not).
1. The continual heart rate monitoring is not accurate. I've compared it numerous times simultaneously with other fitness heart rate monitors and medical heart rate monitors. It is closer to accurate in exercise mode, but still lags a lot. I suspect Polar continual heart rate monitoring is more accurate.
2. Notifications and music controls when synced with cell phone is completely non functional because Blaze is not compatible with my phone. It is compatible with numerous older model Motorolas but not my newer phone, and is compatible with numerous older model Samsung phones but not the newer Samsung Galaxy S7. This was the main reason I chose Fitbit Blaze over Polar and is a huge disappointment.
3. Afterthought; it's extremely annoying that they don't make sweat absorbent band covers for these things. I can't understand it. Is it really too much to ask?

Is this actually the Blaze in black, sized large, or is this the Blaze in gunmetal, sized large? The pictures are clearly of the Blaze in black, but the price suggests it's the newest release in gunmetal.
It's gunmetal. The black one only has a black band and the metal part it snaps into is silver. Gunmetal has a black band and the metal part it snaps into is also black. It costs the same to buy the black one then buy the gunmetal band separately, that way you can save the silver faced one as a backup.

I am a lifeguard and tend to have to jump in the water alot to get kids out. Is this watch OK for being in the water alot?
Not at all. It's not waterproof. Polar has a similar model that is completely waterproof for swimming.

Is this Gunmetal version available in stores?
Yes, I got mine at best buy. HOWEVER, it costs $30 more, and so do extra bands, so it's smarter to buy the regular and then the gunmetal band separately, so that way you can save the regular band as a backup.

When on the tightest wrung, does the large fit a 7" wrist
I got a large by accident and it fits me on the smallest 2 slots. I measured for a small, so I think the sizes must have a big range. Sorry I don't remember my exact measurements now.

It counts you asleep after one hour of no movement, starting at the beginning of that hour.

Not sure because it's not even compatible with my phone. Be sure to check the list of phones it's compatible with before you buy it.

I want to get this for a birthday present, and the person I'm buying this for has a large wrist. I am wondering if the Large will fit though. Can anyone tell me how these sizes run? My friend is not fat, but big boned. Thank you.
