I read one review that praised this unit as they replaced "a full rack of equipment with large speakers and couldn't be happier". I have to wonder what that system was comprised of. No question, this unit provides the best sound I have ever heard from something with dual 3" speakers. But that's as far as it goes. There is just no way to produce low end frequencies properly with something of this form factor-it's sweet spot is mid-range which shouldn't come as a surprise. I have it in my office at the back of the house, away from our listening rooms, where I am looking for some background music while working. it really is exceptional that you can get this quality of sound out of a small box. I have never tried the radio, but listen to CD's as well as my local music streamed in AAC format from ripped CD's. very nice app on my iPhone to control it all. It's a great product, and i don't think it is too out-of-bounds price-wise.
With dual 5" bass cones, a 5" midrange cone and a 1" tweeter, this Bowers & Wilkins CM8 S2 Rosenut floorstanding speaker disperses sound in a more than 60° horizontal arc and more than 10° vertical arc, so you can become immersed in high-quality tunes.

What fantastic speakers these are! i have them in our reading room, which is 18'x20'. I have them mated to the CM Centre 2 S2 center, and an SVS SB-2000 sub. Powered by a Marantz SR5010. Makes a great 3.1 secondary HT system with a Samsung 51" Plasma panel.
I primarily use the CM8 S2's for 2.1 channel audio listening. And I am one of those who have never put the speaker grills on...not sure I even know where they are! no exposed screws on the drivers makes for a simply beautiful naked speaker-who could possibly cover them up?! I am using the bass port baffles to roll off the low end into the subwoofer. about 1 foot from the back wall.
the sound signature is just wonderful. not an in your face speaker but not too relaxed either. the high end is the main event....the dome tweeter is just incredible....cymbals during jazz numbers or the soft sounds of a stringed instrument float on air. I do agree with some professional reviewers regarding the need for a high quality sub for really good low end sound. the two 5.5" drivers do a fine job, but to my ears they don't reach quite low enough.
I got them in the incredible rosewood color. Simply beautiful. The price of admission is steep, But B/W quality in both sound and looks has always demanded a higher price and I don't mind paying it.
Turn up the volume with this MartinLogan Motion 20 floor speaker. Two 5.5-inch aluminum cone woofers and a rear-firing bass port enhance your listening experience with deep, throbbing low tones. This MartinLogan Motion 20 floor speaker has an advanced Folded Motion tweeter that delivers clear highs and rich, dynamic mid-range frequencies.

I purchased the M20's to mate with a 50XT center for a 2nd, smaller HT setup, and for 2-channel, casual listening. I have the ML Montis and Stage-X center in my main HT, and couldn't be happier with the ML traditional electrostatic sound. Warm, huge soundstage, imaging larger than life, etc. I knew that obviously the M20's would be a much different sound signature being an enclosed, small speaker, but....... After 2 weeks of much 2-channel (and 2.1 channel) auditioning in my home I found them to be very bright (possibly due to the folded tweeter perhaps?). I prefer a warmer, more engaging sound signature. Don't have room for even small ML electrostatics in this room-must use a shorter, slender floor standing speaker. I ordered B/W CM8 S2's and matching center channel, and will be returning the ML M20's and 50XT center when they arrive. One thing to mention. Due to having a single bass driver, a good subwoofer that will blend well with the M20's is essential for bringing out the really deep frequencies if you will be using them for 2-channel listening. A quality built speaker system no doubt, just not for me, and as we all know, speaker selection is extremely subjective.
