How to stop Geek Squad and Antivirus renewal popups
I bought a laptop at Best Buy in Aug 2013 and took 2 year Geek Squad service plan and 2 years of Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS). I am getting pop-ups to renew both 2 years early. One popup is to renew Geek Squad for a 3rd year and get a 3rd year of Kaspersky Antivirus (not KIS) .for $100. Another popup is get a 3rd year of Kaspersky Antivirus (not KIS) for $20. When I called Geek Squad to ask how to stop them, no one seemed to be able to tell me how and they wanted to do a remote log-in. My sense is that if they knew how, they could tell me rather than need to scour my system hunting for the answer..
Does anyone here know?
The last time a Geek Squad agent did a remote log-in, he did a tune-up that did more harm than good. It took me several hours to recustomize the settings he reverted to default settings, and he deleted a file that was given to me by Microsoft that took me two hours to download for a repair that Microsoft did, which Geek Squad (understandably, given the complexity) failed at. However, I will never again hand over a machine to someone I can’t speak with.
This should be a very simple matter, one that does not require remote log-in by Geek Squad. I hope someone reading this question knows how to stop the pop-ups They cannot be stopped with a pup-up blocker as each seems to be a new window opened by the program itself, i.e., KIS).
