Frigidaire 12,000 btu window a/c unit

Our central A/C died and this unit kept us cool, at least two to three rooms. Are have original 1950's Windows but the unit had to be Gerry-rigged as the. window frame was much thicker than the a/c unit was set up for. The unit was loud with the fan set on hi and coldest setting.
The batteries were taken out of the remote, as the unit lost it's mind.
