This Trident-Cyclops appears to be comparable to an Otterbox Defender with the 3-piece protective case--inner shell, outer shell and screen faceplate--at a lower cost. However, the material used is nothing like the Otterbox. The "plastic" or hardened polycarbonate is just short of brittle. In putting my phone in the case and taking it out, I was nervous about breaking the case and not being able to return it. The price and color made it attractive but I think the case could break if dropped and would leave your phone vulnerable.

Because I was purchasing a case for a Galaxy S5 i.e., an older model, I ordered three cases to compare since they are no longer in stores. While I loved the pink/black color, the case didn't provide the level of coverage I was wanting after having broken my S4's screen when I dropped it picking it up from the nightstand. I wanted a case with a faceplate/screen protector and couldn't tell for sure from the product decription whether it had one or not.

The Defender is my first OtterBox. After one too many drops, my S4 screen was broken and completely black. I replaced it with an S5 and knew I had to protect it better. I ordered a Trident cover made similarly to the Defender but it didn't compare. You get what you pay for. I would have given 5 stars but I haven't experienced a similar drop to the one that broke my S4 so I'm not 100% sure The Defender will protect against any breakage but I feel more confident with it than any other case I considered. I also bought one in hot pink [from Groupon] for my daughter after replacing the broken screen on my S4.
