Opeth continues to explore & expand its sound. Keep an open mind & you will be vastly rewarded by this amazing piece of work. Be sure to get the deluxe edition as the bonus tracks are outstanding as well. Mikael Akerfeldt's singing has never had more range. This is certainly a contender for the disc of the year in my book.
I long for the early period of Heart again (Dreamboat Annie through Passionworks). I've never taken to the idea of re-recordings of past tracks because you can never recreate that era. The new songs on this disc are not bad at all. The strings added to "Sweet Darling" are a nice touch, but I like the simplicity & purity of Ann's vocal on the original. A prime example of the fruitlessness of re-recording a classic track is the COMPLETE ruination of "Cities Burning"; awful. Of course, their current drummer isn't capable of playing Michael Derosier's licks from the original (seen them live; he is the Achilles' Heel in the current lineup). While Ann & Nancy will always hold a special place in my "Heart" (pun intended) & they still sound great themselves, I don't see the real point of this disc for the most part. Rehire Derosier, fire Ben Mink & Ben the current drummer, go back & pull out your Zeppelin albums, & get to work, ladies. Love ya'!
Sorry, just had to counter that other review. Tull is one of the greatest, most innovative, & unique bands in the history of rock 'n' roll. Ian Anderson is a genius & this is but a small sampler of that. They can be an acquired taste, but once you get the taste for it, you'll only want more. This collection shows the diversity of Tull's catalog & the many elements of rock, blues, prog, and folk they throw into the mix. Absolute gold!
The sound & picture of the DVD is fantastic. The only way it could be better is in 5.1. The songs are a mixture of classic Accept & U.D.O. stuff & all are performed flawlessly. I really needed a good kick in the butt & was looking for something I'd been missing & man, is this it!
As I wrote in my review of the single disc edition, this is a great return-to-form record for the rockin' Belfast bunch. Much better than their last "New Horizon" although that wasn't bad. This edition has some great bonus & acoustic tracks so get this one!
Absolutely one of the best albums of 2015. A great return from this fantastic band from Belfast. The slightly darker "New Horizon" was good as this band is always good, but this one is much better. You would highly benefit yourself to buy this. There's a deluxe version also with bonus tracks that's even better. Seek this one out!
This is a phenomenal album. The songs are fantastic. The vocals are spot on & the musicianship shines. Soulful, catchy classic rock and roll. BUY IT! On tour with Blackberry Smoke now & they're killer live!
Great album, beautiful packaging & remastering. I echo the previous comments; even if you own the original, I would get this one instead because it betters it in every way, in particular the 5.1 mix. Peaceville always goes the extra mile in quality imho.
Look at that playlist! How could you go wrong with this disc?!? Even more confounding, how could some moron give this two stars?!? Some of the greatest rock & roll ever recorded is on here. All classics, all killer, no filler! BUY IT!!
This is a great disc, especially if you like Mustaine's timely tirades about the political world in general. The band is a machine, the musicianship top notch, the production is massive. More great work from one of the world's premier metal bands.
