The tv has an incredible picture. The tv itself is excellent. It's these apps... we had to almost immediately return the first one we bought and get a new one because every time we tried to use the apps it would crash. The new one sometimes does the same. We bought the 5 year geek squad though and they've come in handy and we trust that if we continue to have issues we'll get it replaced. The picture is excellent though!

Is it really necessary?

I guess I don't mind this because it keeps my screen from being scratched. However, it cracked on the first day after no trauma to my phone. I've never cracked a screen on any phone ever, and this cracked the first day. Luckily, they'll replace them for free, you just pay to ship it to yourself. But, while they claim it'll crack instead of your screen, I find it very hard to believe that it actually kept my screen from cracking. I believe it's just a little too delicate and cracks easily. So, I question it's worth for the money. The only upside is that they'll replace it for you through the company.
