Not every hero that comes back from war wants to be recognized - and this film hits on that aspect. When John Basilone won the Medal of Honor in WWII, the politicians brought him back to campaign war bond sales... all John wanted was to get back to his family on the front lines.
This film is a take on someone who doesn't want to be acknowledged for something that he was trained to do... the reluctant hero. Excellent watch for veterans!

The chief complaints I read about this film, is it wasn't "action packed" or "a feel good war story". Being a Marine and a history fan... war is NOT "feel good". Now, ever since I saw JAWS, I was captivated by Robert Shaw giving his speech about the Indianapolis... and how the sharks took half the crew.
This film takes the account from JAWS and puts it on full display. The Indianapolis is a story about survival and what the cost of war is. Fully recommend to any war/historical fans. If you're looking to be entertained... this film is NOT for you.
