70s rock plus j mascis, mark lanegan & robert pollard. it's not like the velvet monkeys where there were too many cooks, all 3 contribute properly. i'd still rather listen to em separately, but it's good.
to read the online reviews, you'd think this was his best output since bee thousand. they're wrong. it's just another bob record. but for that matter, so was bee thousand. when a guy releases 182 records, you have a pretty good idea of what the 183rd will sound like. which is to say, it's awesome, and you'll still have it on repeat while he releases 4 more.
i don't hear much difference between this 3rd record and his 2nd one, so i can only give 4/5, but it's hardly a crime not to change when you're doing things right.
