This speaker features a 15" woofer with high-temperature voice coils to ensure powerful bass. The 4" wide-dispersion midrange driver and the 2-1/2" ferrofluid-cooled tweeter deliver quality audio.
I got these to replace some high end (but dying) AR315HO speakers. They are part of a 5.1 surround system with a Sony STR-DG820 AV receiver, and are used primarily for movies and the PS3. When in surround mode the system sounds incredible, with the BIC spkrs fleshing out the music and sound effects quite nicely. When listening to music using just the BICs, the volume has to climb a bit before the speakers come into their own although this may be due more to the Sony's overly efficient amp. There is a relatively small sweet spot in the mid-ranges before things go from loud to a bit harsh. Overall, however, the sound is really good, and I can readily recommend these speakers as part of a 5.1 system for all around use. Critical music listeners won't be happy but better sounding units come at much higher price tags.
What's great about it: Strong build quality with good finish
What's not so great: Can get a little brash as the volume climbs
