affordable Dell laptop for students

I bought this Dell laptop for my daughter who is in middle school. She needs it for her home work and other school projects. At less than $400, this laptop is a very good choice for her, it is fast, touch screen and has 1TB hard drive. It doesn't come with software though. And it is still kind of heavy to be real portable.

Is this 8cm disc or 12cm disc?
My DVD Video Recorder manual indicates max record time as follows:
SLP 8cm disc = 144mins record time
SLP 12cm disc = 400 mins record time

this is SLP 8cm disc, 120 mins for video
