Adequate Replacement for Recalled Samsung Washer

We bought this Samsung washer to replace our prior model that was subject to the exploding top loading washer recall. Although this model did not match our existing Samsung dryer (that was just over one year old), we quickly got over that aspect and have been happy with this washer. Due to the layout of our laundry area (we have hanging cabinets above the washer), we could not choose a model with the ActiveWash feature because the lid cannot open entirely because of the cabinets, and the lid would slam down as a result of the extra weight of the ActiveWash sink. Plus, the sink would block our access to the detergent / fabric softener compartment. In short, if you have a utility sink in your laundry area already, then spare yourself the trouble of the ActiveWash models. Although that feature is a nice idea, it is not practical in reality due to the design of these machines.

Clean Carpets and Easy to Maneuver

We used to borrow a relative's Rug Doctor machine, but were never impressed with the results after cleaning the carpets and found that machine difficult to maneuver because of its weight and folding handle. Although we have only used this machine once so far, we were impressed with the results after cleaning and found this unit much easier to use and maneuver due to its light-weight design and similarity to a vacuum cleaner. I read a review online that ranked this unit as the #1 consumer carpet cleaner on the market, and we are very pleased so far.

Activewash Is Not for Everyone

We recently ordered this washing machine, but soon after exchanged it for a smaller capacity unit because the only 5.2 cubic foot models stocked by Best Buy have the Activewash feature. We have cabinets above our machines that prevent the lid from being opened all the way, and the Activewash sink's additional weight makes the lid close unexpectedly. Plus, the Activewash basin makes it quite difficult to access the detergent tray and the design is not as practical as we'd expected. Since we have a utility sink next to our machine anyhow, we decided simpler is better.
